Getting into UNC Chapel Hill

I’m a high school junior. I plan on apply to Chapel Hill during the early action period, but I have been a wreck trying to figure out if I should even take the time. My unweighted GPA is a 3.58, and my weighted GPA is a 4.35. My class rank is 7th of out 304. I’m in the IB program. My original SAT scores were a 640 for reading, and I scored pretty low on the math at a 490. I know that’s going to be very hard, but I do have teachers that have offered to help me after school. I plan on studying every chance that I get. I plan on retaking it in May, and hopefully raise my Math score to somewhere in the 600s. I do a lot of community and service, I have held a student council position since my freshman year, and I am also apart of the National Technical Honor Society. I’m also a first generation college student. I also live in state.

Do I not have enough extracurricular activities?
Do I have a chance or should I just give up?

You may have a chance, if you stick to your plans and raise that GPA and SAT score! I would suggest adding some more extracurriculars, because the ones that you have are pretty generic. Are you part of any clubs? Do you play any sports? I believe in you and I hope you make it.

Definitely apply! If you’re out of state, it’s definitely a reach, but you have a chance. Really study to raise that sat score and maybe take it earlier than may to see where you stand after studying more so you can take it again if needed. Also maybe try the act; I took it as an afterthought and did much better on it.

Have you taken the ACT? Take a practice test and see if you do better on that format. You have some time to work on your scores.
