I am a junior in high school looking to apply into USC next year. I would be applying out of state and I would say that my GPA and rank is higher than average but I’m not in the top 10 position or anything. My ACT and SAT scores are pretty good. What are my changes of getting in?
Unweighted GPA? SAT and ACT test scores? Need #'s here not just “pretty good”. What is your intended major? EC’s?
USC is private to instate vs out of state makes no difference.
Right, sorry. My unweighted GPA is 4.0 and my SAT score is 1370 (although I plan on retaking it) and my ACT score is a 34 (not sure if i can afford to retake it). I would either major in psychology or journalism, maybe even major in piano performance at Thornton although my chances for that are probably low. For extracurriculars I am a part of NHS, Mu Alpha Theta and a handful of smaller clubs. I work a lot because my family isn’t financially well off and I’m in the IB program so I don’t have time to do a lot of other extracurricular activities or commit to a sport. I know my credentials are pretty average but I’m doing the best I can. Thoughts?
USC can give good financial aid but you should run the Net Price Calculator on their website to give you an idea of your possible costs. You have competitive stats but if you are in need financial aid, they might not be enough to get you significant FA to make USC affordable.
Make sure you apply widely and have some solid affordable in-state options that you are willing to attend.
Best of luck.
