Getting Into UW

I was wondering what my chances are at getting into the University of Washington (in state). I got a 3.6 my freshman year, 3.1 my sophomore year (slacked off a lot that year), and now I'm a junior and a full-time Running Start student and got a 3.8. (3.56 cumulative) Still waiting on my SAT scores but I'm expecting something around 1800. I'm going to retake the SAT in the fall and go for 2100+. Going to take the ACT in the fall as well. I've taken a bunch of honors classes and this year (junior year), I'm doing Running Start so all my classes are college level stuff.

I'm decent at writing and know some people who can really help out with my college essay, so I think that should be solid.

I was a varsity track runner and cross country runner my freshman and sophomore year but I don't like running anymore so I stopped (didn't do it junior year). Also just got a job at a YMCA (maybe that helps with admitting...?). I've also done some volunteer work at the public library.

What are my chances at getting in?

Hi,

You need pretty high test scores to have a good chance a UW. I think if you can pull off a 1900+ on the SAT or a 28+ on the ACT you’ll be set. Write a kickass essay too!

Good luck!

Your GPA is a bit on the lower side for UWash, but that upward trend from sophomore to junior year will help a lot. Your EC’s are unfortunately not very impressive (not that you shouldn’t be proud of them! They’re just very common and sadly others will have much more interesting ones, or simply more of them.)

Still, being a varsity member of a sports team, having a job, and some volunteer hours are all good. With your upward trending GPA and a 1900/2000+ SAT score, you’ll have a decent shot!
