Getting into Vanderbilt?

I am a senior in high school, just visited Vanderbilt and fell in love. I live in east Tennessee. I realize the admissions process is extremely selective and was wondering what my chances of being accepted would be. Here is a little about me:
I am extremely driven and school comes first to me. I am second in a class of around 450 with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and 4.4 weighted (I have taken as many AP as I could with my schedule). I have only taken the ACT once last year, scored a 34, but will retake in October. I have been playing the cello since 6th grade, have been in chamber orchestra at my school all four years and I am decent (not especially amazing). What I am worried about are my extracurriculars and volunteering because I had not been predominantly involved in these categories until my junior year. I am student body vice president (involved in student council as of sophomore year) and was junior class VP last year. I am involved in other clubs (like beta, foreign language, future business leaders of america, and math club (treasurer)), but have not taken interest as much until last year. As of this year I began tutoring my neighbor (paid) and volunteering to tutor after school a couple days a week. I also volunteer at an animal shelter every weekend, but only started this near the end of last year. I am really angry with myself for not starting some of these activities until last year (mostly because I was so focused on academics), but I cannot change that now. What do you think my chances are?

I currently go to Vandy. I do have to say that some people here do have perhaps one outstanding quality that they carried with them for a majority of high school (i.e. volunteered for a specific organization for 3 years, and showed movement up the ranks). But from what I can see in what you’ve shown, I’d say you have a pretty good chance my friend! Also, don’t let the fact that Vanderbilt and other top schools being highly selective deter you from applying. You’re a strong candidate. Not the strongest, but you’re strong. If you can talk about a clear interest you want to achieve in your undergrad years, bring it up in your apps. And don’t just do ED unless YOU ARE 100% ABSOLUTELY SURE you want to go there! It’s always great to apply to many choice schools and select that way, unless like I said you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go to a school that you decide to apply ED.

i think you would get in but be sure

Vandy loves high score applicants. With a 4.0 and 34 ACT you are very competitive for the university.

good luck.
