Getting involved with UT Fraternities

I have learned a lot from simply reading the many posts on this board- thank you to everybody who has contributed their knowledge.

My son is interested in a UT Fraternity but he is not interested in the one that he has friends currently at. My son currently has no connections to the frats that he is currently interested in. What is the best way for him to get involved and meet other frats? We live in the Austin area so he could go to events in the summer, but getting him hooked up is the challenge. He knows some girls in sororities, how could they help?

I know that he will sign up for IFC once summer begins but is there anything he can do now? Once he joins do fraternities start to contact members to more events? Do they go through the IFC members and try to associate their application with possible eligibility in their frat?

Hopefully I, and my son, can get some questions answered. We recently moved here a couple years ago and do not know a lot about how Greek Life runs at UT :)

the IFC website really doesn’t do anything. I don’t know of anyone who used it and we certainly don’t use a website for rush.

Oh thanks, what would you recommend?

Would you find it weird if a sorority girl came up to you and said that they had a guy friend that wanted to rush?

Also, lets say my son gets on a list and meets some people. What are some signs that he will feel they like him? Do they ask questions? Will they approach him? Will they automatically say something like “Hey come on out another day…etc”…if they don’t should he go to other houses?

Thank you for your input.

Also, what are the reps for fraternities? Like does one have a rep for being a big party house? or the good student house? the one that always wins intramurals? Just wondered because there are a lot of houses and that would be interesting to know what they are known for.

having a friend of his who’s already in greeklife would help, if she could talk to guy friends of hers then they would pass that info on to the rush captain. As for actually rushing, just have him go to events when possible and if they like him they will contact him regarding future events.

Living in Austin means that he can hit parties every week of orientation - a huge advantage.

True! When does orientation start? And there is NO lists at any of the houses, or does it depend on the actual frat?

Orientation every week from june 9 to july 16
