im just interested in getting a part time job somewhere interesting on campus, so i thought i'd like to work at either anderson, murphy hall, the law school, or GSEIS, but it seems that all they hire are work study students (which i dont have).

what do u recommend? any advice for trying to get jobs there or for looking up jobs that are available (theres no work study available jobs link for me at myucla)? or should i just try something else?

you might want to ask this question on the myUCLA forums - they could give you a better answer. Since there are a ridiculous amount of separate offices in those buildings (especially Murphy), you should probably just go into whichever one you would like to work in and see if they have any positions available.

Work study students are going to get first crack at most student positions. The exception will be if you have some skill that someone knows of and it's not particularly common, e.g., a graphic designer or writer/photographer.

For a non-work-study position, a department will have to have (or come up with) funding for it. A tedious approach might be to look at work study positions available, see if there's anything that's a particularly good match for you, and then contact the department to see if they might have anything non-work-study coming up.

Just saying "I want to work in Murphy" or "I want to work in Anderson" isn't going to excite anyone on your behalf. It's a case of "here's what I can do for you that others can't."

I tried to get a job at UCLA and it was too easy. I just walked in, got interviewd, and was hired on the spot. I just looked at the postings by the bookstore in Ackerman. I didnt really try anything else though.

yea maybe ill try posting in the myucla forums, but they always get off topic! and theres always the same posters going against each other, like (rattling names off the top of my head) homer, cherbert, kami, desolate, etc.
