Thats a stupid reason not to apply

^What are you talking about?

According to his stats page, OP is a black male with a 2300 SAT, a 3.5 unweighted GPA, and some good ECs. A student with those stats will be able to get into many very selective schools. In my opinion, what’s wrong with the current list is that there’s too big a gap between NYU and Harvard/MIT. Those two schools reject a lot of highly qualified applicants, but there are quite a few schools more selective than NYU that would be interested in such a candidate. Do more research.

dude I remember you…you’re black and have a 2300 SAT. despite your low gpa, I think you have a shot at lower Ivies at least. Brown, Cornell, …

^^Hunt–

You and I are in exact agreement over the gap. There are a bunch of schools that could be good prospects in the NYU/Harvard gap, but I am not sure the OP has systematically worked through them.

^Well he is a self-proclaimed lazy genius.
He probably just doesnt feel like working things out lol

Well there were jerks who laughed at me when somehow word got out that I was applying to Ivy League schools. Once I got my acceptance letter, I pretty much told them “suck on that”! (Yeah, it’s this kind of attitude and maturity that really gives you an edge over other applicants).

Just pay no attention to their scoffs my friend! No-one’s laughing at you here!

Apply-get accepted-staple the acceptance letter to your chest

I don’t understand, though, where the school gets off forcing students to apply. What business is it of theirs how many schools you apply to? If I’d been in your situation, I doubt I would’ve cared anyway and kept my one ED app. Speaking of which, doesn’t this policy discourage students from applying early?

I get laughed at for many reasons:

Duke - “EUW WHY DO YOU WANT TO GO TO DUKE?! THEY’RE SO OBNOXIOUS!!”
Penn State - “But it’s so…ugh…BIG…”
Harvard - “So what are you like…smart? Are you seriously going to snooty-tooty Harvard?”
Notre Dame - “It’s in the middle of NOWHERE!! You’re going to be a brainwashed Catholic when you graduate!!”

And for all those schools: “OMG none of your schools match, they’re all so different…you can’t generate a college list if your life depended on it.”

Do not let others opinions dictate how you live you life and make decisions. Although your gpa is low you say you have a reason for it. If you have a good reason for the low gpa then explain it to admissions, it will be considered. The rest of your app seems fine. I say go ahead and apply and see where fate takes you.

Thanks everybody I was going to reply to everyone individual post but that would be to long…So I am just going to say this where would I find these schools that will fill in my gap?

We are kinda a college prep school and everyone who goes is expected to go to college or in to the military. And no they don’t care if you apply early…if you get accepted and you know you want to go there they won’t make you apply to 4 more schools (well at least I think they wouldn’t…)

Get (or check out from the library) the book “The Best 373 Colleges.”

Also, read a bunch of threads here to see the kinds of schools people apply to. Ideas might include Tufts, Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Rice, and a lot of liberal arts colleges.

To much information

Screw them. No one should be laughed at for aiming high, especially when everyone and their mother is applying to Ivies.
If you’re really self-conscious, tell ONLY your recommenders and no one else. And then surprise them when you get in. :)

Smart people who only apply to State school should be more ashamed than dumb people who apply to Harvard (not saying you’re dumb).

I TOTALLY agree!!! I have a friend straight A’s and stuff but he is just going to stay in Oklahoma and go to one of the state schools. And I think he is so dumb for doing that

Why? Do tell.

Well I agree with this statement because what’s the whole point of trying and doing well in school if you are not going to live out to your true potential.

1a. People from different backgrounds have different values and different aspirations. Consolidating the goals of all people down to a single, personal conception of “true potential” is intolerant.
