getting nervous about applying!!!

Ok so I am applying to these schools:

Dartmouth

Cornell U

Hamilton C (NY)

SUNY Geneseo

I'm getting nervous that I won't have a chance at any of these schools. Even SUNY Geneseo is very competitive b/c it is so much cheaper. I was wondering if ppl could tell me a) how much of a chance I have at these schools and b)what I can and should do to help my chances at these school. I have posted a chance thread before but a few things have changed.

My GPA (unweighted) is about 3.72. I just finished my junior year of HS.

SAT: CR:710 M:670 W:660
SAT II: US History: 720 Lit: 760

EC's:

9th grade:

Recycling club,
recreational softball,
my poem came in 2nd in a county writing contest
I was in band at school through middle school and in 9th grade, but as I dropped band in 10th grade, I'm not sure if including this in the app ould help or hurt.
all honors classes

10th grade:

recycling club,
rec softball,
a short story i wrote was published in a literary journal in a tri-county contest
all honors classes

11th grade:

key club,
rec softball
summer job (waitressing)
all honors classes
one AP class (5) two more next year. if it matters i'd say my school offers maybe um 7 AP courses.

My essay seems good so far and I know at least one of my teacher rec's will be pretty good.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Nobody can give you accurate chances but you should also apply to schools that you can afford and are guaranteed to get in - “safety” schools.

I think Cornell and Darmouth might be reaches for you, only b/c your SATs and GPA probably aren’t high enough. However, I think you have a great chance of getting in the other two.

thanks :-D

Darmouth is a high reach for everybody. But if you like it, go ahead and give it a shot.

Cornell is a reach for almost everybody (including you) if you’re talking about the any of the non-NYS-contract undergraduate colleges. [The NYS-contract undergraduate colleges are the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Human Ecology, and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Those schools treat NYS residents as in-state students the way most state’s land grant university treats in-state students. I have no idea what your chances are at one of the NYS-contract colleges are.]

Hamilton C—no idea

SUNY Geneseo: I think you’re a match for Geneseo. Your SATs are above the 75% there, if I recall their range correctly, but the gpa might be a bit (but not disasterously) low for Geneseo. What’s your high school rank? And what’s the rigor of your schedule been like?

Are you in-state for SUNY? If so and if you’re looking for a smaller place rather than a larger one, you might want to consider some of the other SUNY University-Colleges, such as New Paltz or Fredonia as both academic and financial safeties. If you’re wanting a student body with stats similar to Geneseo’s and you don’t mind increasing the size, then also look at SUNY-Binghamton.

You might also want to look into the honors programs at the various SUNYs since your stats make your competitive for at least some of them.

I think you are in at Suny Geneseo. Some others to possibly check into are Skidmore, St. Lawrence, Ct. College, Muhlenberg ¶ and Dickinson ¶. Best of luck!
