I'm pretty boring.. also, what do you think about...
Reaches- UNC-CH, Duke, Boston College
Matches- Bucknell, Richmond
Safety- suggestions would be great!!

UNC-CH gotta be tough for any out of states. u've TERRIBLY high chance for most of the colleges u've listed. ur SAT is a KILLER! And then ur overall performance is superb! :)

OK, I'm gonna be honest, but gentle. You have very good SAT scores. But, your EC's are average or even below average. Your GPA is good (not great). I don't see a class rank, and that would be helpful--even if you just give an estimate of where you are? Top 5%? Top 10%? Top 20%?
A term/phrase that was used often on these sites last year, when I was applying to a total of 9 schools was "what is your hook?"
What is yours? For instance, legacy status is a hook with most schools. Every high school across the country is producing great kids, all with similar stats. What makes you special?? Even perfect SAT's aren't that unusual these days. (Mine are far from perfect).
Near perfect grades and near perfect SAT's are boring. >>>> Give us a hook. Give UVA something they can grab onto.

Without more to go on I say:
UVA-no
UNC-CH-no
Boston College-yes, but I'm fairly uninformed about this school
Duke-no
Bucknell-I don't know enough about it
Richmond-yes

To the OP: I guess u already know that people at CC have near perfect ambitions! So do I! Don't be intimidated by it and feel bad abt it. A 4.4 GPA sounds to me awesome...I've no problem w/ that....in fact, college admission officers won't penalize u on that unless it's an Ivy sorta schools. make ur essays perfect and present urself in the correct way......u've GOOD chance in all of that. Duke and UNC only looks to me a bit difficult. :)
Best of Luck! ;)

I agree with jimmyjam about the ECs and GPA (though that is very good). ECs need a lot of work though. Someone could be applying with a 2200 but have been captain of a few sports teams and get in over you. Have you done anything noteworthy? Drama, choir, sports, etc? volunteer work? If not, I suggest you start something. Nevertheless, without that I think you will get into UNC, BC, Bucknell, and Richmond, based on SAT alone, though, again, if you don't get in it will be because of lack of ECs. I don't see you getting into UVA or Duke, again, without some strong ECs. You should apply to some lower-level Ivies such as Cornell or Dartmouth as additional reaches. I could probably give you some safeties, but do you know what you want to major in? Desired school size? That info would be great for future responders. Best of luck!

UNC-CH is highly selective, particularly OOS; as is UVA. Right now, I'd say there is no way for acceptance at these schools or at Duke. There is no Pizzazz in your portfolio. Boring.
Just take a look at all the other "chance me" threads at each and every school. There are smart kids everywhere. What makes you special, quirky, delightfully different? That's what you need to answer in your essays.
Best to you.

thanks for the feedback.. it is definitely helpful and right on the mark. I know that ECs are easily the weakest part of my application. The truth is that rather than hunt out more activities.. i have really dedicated myself to the running program, and i volunteer when i can. I am average.. I haven't started a huge successful school organization or raised a ton of money, but i have worked hard in the activities which i am involved in. I am hoping that my teacher recommendations will portray that. I also really understand how important the essay will be in my case; it needs to tell colleges that i am not the same cookie-cutter good student... I will def. be working hard on those! So.. i have my work cut out for me.. ha. Thanks for your help!

Oh by the way.. class rank is about top 5%, def. at least top 10%.. major: science something? dependent on how i like allied health.. maybe pre-med? school size: not super small other than that i am fairly open oh.. and my mom went to bucknell and brother just graduated UVA < don't know if that helps

sorry.. one more thing... class size is about 300, and for an idea about GPA the valedictorian typically has a 4.5ish maybe 4.6 at the absolute most

I'm tellin ya, just be happy w/ ur performance so far, and colleges wudn't care if u were in 10k clubs....rather what u r doing is the right way. If u r really dedicated, then, u shud be in a better position. Don't be embarrassed to take to ur teachers a list of things u wud like them to include......teachers r most likely to forget some things u wud definitely wanna see in ur recommendation letters!

I think with alumni connections you are in at UVA. HOWEVER, ECs are still gonna kill you if you can't make something of what you HAVE done. Just do what you can in the essay, and don't worry about it! Also, one safety for your prospective major: UW-Seattle. You WILL get in there, they have a renowned science/medical program, and you will get into honors. It is a beautiful campus as well. Even if it isn't high on your list, I suggest applying just in case. Scholarship money will sound good in April as well!

UVA only considers the offspring of alumni as legacies. Having a brother, or grandparent does not count. Dean J (UVA admissions Dean) has written about this in the past; you can search her postings if you want to, and her blog is excellent.
Actually, your class rank is very nice, I'm glad you included that!
I can tell that you are working on the admissions process in the right way. Best to you. Relax some, but contrary to above advice>>>> NOT too much.
