I am number 1, and number 2 on the wait list in 2 different sections of Eng W-131, is it likely I will get into one of them?

Pick one of them (preferably the one where you are first on the waitlist) and attend the first week's courses. Since you have to enroll by Friday, you'll know whether or not you can get in. (Usually, the teachers will "drop" anyone not attending the first two courses of a class--even prior to the student dropping it themself). If you are concerned about this, talk to the professor. They will either "drop" a person who doesn't attend or else expand the course size to accommodate you. However, if everyone attends, then it all depends upon whether you can convince the professor to let you in.

Good luck.

Check Onestart frequently for new sections of W131 opening up during orientation. I just checked and there are open sections every hour MWF from 12:20-4:40 and at 8:00 with at least eight seats open and no waiting list in each section. They also tend to add a lot of freshmen foreign language and some math classes throughout orientation too as sections fill up. Check frequently and you can probably get something without going the waitlist route.

Here is a W131 from a few minutes ago with eleven openings for 1:25-2:15:

ENG-W 131 - ELEMENTARY COMPOSITION 1
9277 Enrollment Regular 3 Discussion Open 11 Days & Times Room Instructor Meeting Dates
MoWeFr 1:25PM - 2:15PM WH 204 Lavinia Hirsu 09/02/2008 - 12/19/2008

the 2 I am on the wait list for, are with professors who look like they have very generous grade distributions.

You can just go to the professor and get an override slip. If there's a seat, it won't be a problem.
