Getting off the waitlist for MATH233? Getting a seat for PHYS 116?

Hey, so I just recently finished orientation and I was waitlisted for MATH 233 and I'm number 9. How likely will I get off the wait list? I heard a lot of students drop it before classes start. Also, I wasn't able to add PHYS 116 to my schedule because they restricted us to wait listing only one class. How hard is it getting a PHYS 116 seat during the add/drop period or through a sit-in the first day?

Thanks :D

Sit-ins have never really worked for me with science classes, but you’ll almost certainly get a seat for both Phys and Math. Many people drop after the first few classes when they realize just how hard the work really is. Also, UNC kills all waitlists a few weeks before classes start.

That is so great to hear! I’m actually thinking of taking MATH 233H since it’s open and there’s only one person currently enrolled. Does anyone know how difficult the Honors version of MATH 233 is compared to the regular one? It says that there will be plenty of Physics applications. I’ll be taking a Physics class, so maybe it won’t be too bad of an idea taking it, right? It’s with Jonathan Wahl if anyone has opinions about him.

I would check blinkness or rate my professor.

But don’t worry, those math and physics classes open up reaaaaall quick. Especially after the first week. I suggest just sitting in the regular math 233. However, I just cringe at the idea of math period… if you want to try out the honors and see how you like it, it might not be a bad idea (that way you won’t miss any class time if you drop down, as opposed to waiting a week for enough people to drop out so you can add the other class later)
