I am applying to boarding schools (Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, Choate, and Hotchkiss) and today I found out I was waitlisted at Exeter, Deerfield, Choate and Hotchkiss (I have yet to hear from Andover). I was wondering what the chances are I will get off the waitlist and what possible chances I have to get into Andover.
We cant possibly comment without more information. If you are a superstar and or a legacy to andover the other schools could have WL you b/c they thought you would go to Andover. If you are simply a strong candidate you could get WL everywhere…hard to know WL at these schools are tough.
Thank you so much for commenting, I am well-rounded student with straight As who received an 95% on the SSAT . I play four sports (lacrosse, squash, tennis and volleyball). I am regionally ranked at squash. I received second place at debate nationals, and a perfect score on the national latin exam among other things. I don’t think I am a superstar but I was very disappointed with my boarding school turn out. Is this enough information to guess?

@Boarding2016 May I ask what area of the country you are from, did you need financial aid and what is your ethnic background?
I am white, do not need financial aid, and from the New York area.
hmmm. I am a little surprised. Being from NY doesnt help. Full pay is a big advantage. Do you come from a highly competitive middle school? were you applying for 9 or 10th?
No one can tell you what the chances of coming off of any waitlists are. Please read the waitlist thread to get a good perspective on how waitlists work. A week or two after A10 (after schools know how many students plan to enroll), you may want to contact the schools you’re still interested in and ask them if they can give you any information on the possibility of coming off their WL. But, no one here can give you that information
I was waitlisted at Phillips Exeter too! I am from the Haiti, but I live in the U.S.
I have good grades, and lots of EC’s (I need a lot of FA tho )
I am sending the admissions office a handwritten letter (yes! handwritten, not emailed:p) that I spent several hours making. (I am an artist, so I tried my hardest on this card)
Would it be a good idea to send another recommendation from a new teacher?
@Boarding2016 Yayay! I hope u get moved off, if you are even on the waiting list, that means you must be an amazing person, and student! good luck to you!
To put it simply gaining admission off of the waiting list is much less likely than gaining admission in the first place. It certainly happens but so many things have to go your way that it is impossible to predict other than saying it is unlikely. Moreover the things that have to happen are beyond your control so there is nothing you can do to improve your chances.
