(Sorry for the huge block of text but I really need advice)
UNC Chapel Hill is my absolute dream school and honestly would do anything to be able to go. But, unfortunately, I was waitlisted as an out-of-state student. Just for context, my SAT is 1450, I have a 4.0 unweighted/4.3ish weighted GPA as of 1st sem of senior year, and I’d say a pretty good amount of ECs/awards and volunteer experience. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get in off the waitlist? I know chances are very slim (like less than 1% slim), but I am willing to try anything to get in. (Also, I recently won an award at a MUN conference at UNC and I would really like to update my application with that, but they tell you when you accept a spot on the waitlist that other than transcript updates, it is not recommended to send additional supplemental information.) Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!!
Hope that yield is lower than expected and they go to the waitlist. Many top colleges do not go to the waitlist at all.
My best advice is for you to get excited about another school. I am sorry you are waitlisted. Odds are indeed extremely slim.
(I accidentally posted this question twice, sorry for the confusion!)
Last year, due to COVID, the odds of getting off the waitlist got to about 30 percent. Historically had been 1 or 2 percent. The extremely negative press they are receiving on their handling of COVID might actually help your chances
Another thing to consider … the town is extremely conservative (which means they are liberals) in its approach to COVID. Rightly or wrongly, who knows. It’s not the same town and probably years from recovering. Will spend first year or two online, not at sporting events and wandering a semi boarded up Franklin St
While his question was actually from last year, not this year’s waitlist, they actually only took 5% off their waitlist from last year, not 30%.
