getting one B

i’m applying to colleges like UVA, UPENN, JHU, CORNELL, DUKE, HARVARD, YALE and i’m wondering if they will care if I recieve a B , 90-92ish on my semester average for spanish IV.

Your school might consider a 90-92 a B, but it is generally considered to be an A- by most schools. As long as the % is reported, you should be fine. Even if all your school sent was a B, it shouldn't change your status of admission as long as the rest of your application was strong.

nah, the percent and the letter grade is sent out.

and well that is the first B i would have ever gotten on my semester average. i dont know if ivy's see a B as like a D would for most people.

It's not a big deal, even if you did get a B it's not the end of the world. People gets B's in school all the time, and a few of them manage to squeek into college.

Speaking of that... my freshmen year, I got 4 Bs, but so far in grades 10 & 11, I have had straight As (with the exception of an 89.3 in 10th grade World Civ.). Will that matter?

hmm, maybe, i still think they might be partial to a b sadly

Um...Colleges love to see an upward trend in grades because it means that you are progressing...However, the top colleges dont like to see that slow start. Furthermore, I have recieved many many B's (6-7ish) and I am still competitive with all but the Ivies

What about for transfers? I had a 4.0 u/w in high school, and 3.81 Fall Fr., 3.74 Spring Fr., and 3.46 Fall So. (i messed up and a prof dropped a solid A- (91.3) to a B+ (88.8) for showing up late to class a couple of times :(). This disappointed me because a 3.62 wouldn't have looked bad, but I figure it looks like I'm dropping off right before I'm about to transfer (I actually just decided to transfer over break). The grades were 3 B+'s, 1 A for that semester at Ithaca College (and the 3 B+'s were all in soph level courses while the A was a freshman course, and I feel it makes me look like I can only do well in freshman level courses). Sorry if this hijacks the post and it was only for freshman applicants. If so, just ignore this post.
