Getting out of a housing contract...

I am a 1st year and I live in on campus in a residential hall. I really really want to cancel my housing contract and have done some research about how to do this. Basically there is an appeal process to the housing committee. I wanna move purely for personal reasons that contain no serious mental issues or health problems associated with living in the dorms. So my question is what should I say in my appeal? Should I lie? All i have going for me is that I want out, but i have a feeling thats not a very good excuse. I know a couple of people who have gotten out out of their contract. One has asthma and blamed it on that and had a doctors not to accompany his false complaints. Another blamed it on his roommate saying that he did coke and watched child pornography. I dunno if i should be honest or lie. I don't have asthma and i have zero allergies. Any ideas for a kid who just wants to get out of the dorms? Anything helps, thanks.

just lie...its not a big deal.

as for what to say, im drawing a blank.

AHAHAHAHAHA that is some *ed up *. Did cops bust into his room with Chris Hansen and take him away and is that guy a registered as a sex offender? LOL

dude, just say that your parents lost all their money on the market.

say that's it cheaper. provide them some sort of notice that it is.

AB_2012, did you end up cancelling the housing contract? I am in the process of doing so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i want to cancel mine for the same reasons. what should i do?

I did this last year, really easy. Talk to your Resident Advisor, say you are losing sleep, that you are irritable, and that you are afraid your grades will suffer if you stay in the dorms. They will give you a packet to fill out, you have to write a brief statement and then provide supporting evidence as to why they should let you out of your contract. I went to The Ashe Center and spoke to one of the doctors telling him my situation, he wrote a note suggesting that my insomnia and irritability would be helped by moving out of the dorms. Just include anything they give you in your packet and turn it in. They let you out automatically if a doctor provides a note. Good luck! Oh and they may offer you a single instead (so they can keep taking your money you can reject this and say it is too expensive.

Don’t be dishonest. Go ahead and try to get out based on your “wanting out” alone. But adding anymore would be unethical. I know you may see less purpose in being ethical when it comes to dealing with an organization as opposed to a person, but it’s no different.

But you probably won’t listen to this anyway, so whatever.
