any advice on what to tell my guidance counselor to get me out of this class because i despise the teacher, and have put up with horrid math teachers for years on end. i really cannot put up with it, and not to sound bratty but i want out. anything i could say that might work?

Try to think of a different reason for changing. For example, say you don't won't to take math in the (morning/afternoon) because you don't think as well (early/close to when school is done) and maybe you could get into a different class. If you can think of an alternative reason that gets you out of having the teacher, you should be in the clear.

Don't couch your arguments in negative terms (i.e. "don't want..."). Instead, think of positive arguments -- e.g. you'd like to try a math course at a community college. Alternatively, find a class that conflicts with the class of your much-despised teacher, and argue that you're desperate to take it. As a last resort, could you argue that you've already taken a class with "much-despised," and it's clear there's a personality conflict -- or you'd like to try a different teaching method?
Best of luck. Trust me, I can empathize. I've just finished my second year with a schizophrenic math teacher who, without doubt, hated me. Unfortunately, I had no escape avenue.

Be careful though. I tried to get out of having a bad teacher for a fourth year in a row, but he found out and specially requested me to be in his class.

But hey, if that fails, just tell them that your learning style and the teacher in question's teaching style are not very compatible, and you feel that you would learn more effecively in a different environment.

I just waited till the schedules were set and I got my much-despised teacher (this was for world history) first hour. Then I talked to my English teacher who mentioned how her third period was HUGE and her first period tiny so I asked if I could switch into 1st period. She said she'd love it if I did so I talked to my GC who switched me. "Unfortunately," this meant having world history 3rd hr and the horrible teacher didn't teach 3rd hr. so I got an amazing one instead.
