<p>A professor I had at UCR went to UCSC – you know, one of the supposedly “third-tier” UC schools – and went to Harvard and Berkeley for grad school.</p>
<p>While it’s undeniable that people can and will judge on the “valued” prestige of a name, I say that it will be all the more amazing for you to stand out and break the stereotypes and negative associations of the university you attended. What I dislike about the people who bad-mouth Riverside is that it always seems like they’re playing the “I’m such a pathetic victim” card. It’s as if they are attributing their failures to UCR. In addition to being unfair, it shows that they don’t have the tightest grip on their life. If you don’t like UCR, then leave; don’t stay and whine.</p>
