I don't know if you've had any trouble getting out of that, if you didn't meet the criteria or something of the sort, but I did. I didn't meet any of their requirements to get out of their housing contract, but I called them and said, "If you don't let me out of this contract and commute to campus instead I won't have the money to come to Rutgers". They released me from the contract, but I of course lost out on my deposit which is fine.

Good to know.

Keep in mind that while they probably have students to fill these spots, they have to make it so that people take the contract seriously. It’s not fair to the other students if people are just signing contracts and deciding later that they changed their mind. If you have a decent excuse that’s not on their list, I’m sure they consider it. Not having enough money is a good one.

Agreed. I was irresponsible in thinking I could afford on-campus housing. But the simple truth was what I told them. If they didn’t let me out there was no way I would be able to come.
