Getting professor to change an exam date?

So I go to UNC (if you can't figure that out already by my location) and I just realized that my organic chemistry professor has an exam scheduled for the morning after the UNC-Duke basketball game! Ugh! For you guys that don't know what this entails...if we win, here's downtown Chapel Hill:

I know it sounds like a silly reason, but the UNC-Duke game is always one of the biggest basketball games of the year (as well as undoubtedly, the biggest college basketball rivalry in the US) and I know for a fact that a lot of my classmates will probably WILL be watching the game instead of studying...like I said, I know it sounds like a silly reason, but most of us have grown up watching college basketball and it's always a big night when we play Duke. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to approach my professor tactfully about possibly changing the exam date without sounding over the top and lazy?

It sounds like a silly reason because it is a silly reason. Unless your Professor is a huge fan or there is some kind of longstanding tradition at your college, getting your Professor to change the date of an exam is pretty silly. You might not sound lazy, but you’ll definitely sound like a drama queen.

You’re welcome to try, but I would come up with a back up plan. Like, studying for your exam before the night of the game, so that you can watch it without worrying.

Ha, ok.

(Twenty bucks says that someone is going to reply to this thread saying “Don’t worry about it because Duke’s going to kick your both times this year”)

If your prof does go for it, please come back and tell me what you said though.

If you ask for a change, be aware the professor may change the date by holding the exam earlier such as on a date that was going to be a review date.

I’ve had professors move exams/due dates for when they fall on dates right near other important events around campus. For example, when the Steelers made it to the Superbowl we were told if they won, our exam would be put off until the following class. If they lost, the exam would be as scheduled.

Prepare well enough that you can afford not to study that night.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous to reschedule an exam just because of a sports game. No one should theoretically be cramming the night before…
