I’m a junior right now. I know its really early and all but how to you ask a teacher to do multiple recommedations after you have given the teacher only one?

Angiela, it varies from high school to high school, but generally nowadays the teachers write one recommendation that is reprinted to send to all the colleges. At some high schools you will have to package and send the applications yourself - in that case you will want to provide the teachers with stamped,self-addressed envelopes with any school specific forms (using Common App allows the teacher to only deal with one form, then make multiple copies of the form as well as the rec letter) OR unaddressed envelopes that the teachers will put the recs and forms in, seal and initial or sign across the seal, which you will then mail with the rest of the app. The idea is that you have waived your right to read the recs, and can demonstrate that you did not read them.
If your GC's office does the packing and mailing of apps, then you will ask the teacher and then fill out a form from the office giving teacher's name, when you asked and first deadline, then the teacher will send the completed recs directly to the GC office, you will never touch them.

If you are doing your own packing and mailing, be sure to give the teachers plenty of time (not a bad idea to ask any jr year teachers at the end of this year, then bring them everything at the beginning of next year), and decide on your list before you begin bringing the materials, let them know how many recs you will think you need before they agree to do it (some people send huge numbers, like 12-15, that's a lot of work, even if it is just running off copies and putting into envelopes)

And don't forget thw thank you notes!

thank you cangel
