Getting recruited for Cross Country and Track?

Hi - I'm a U of Chicago hopeful, and what I'm wondering is if I would have a shot of getting recruited into their XC and Track Teams with these PR's:

5K- 16:45
800m- 2:01
1600m- 4:30
3200m-9:57

If so.... would trying to get recruited as a freshman increase my chances of getting into the school and how would I go about doing this? Thanks!

I assume you are male. If you are female, these times would get you a running scholarship at a top Div I program. (Div III schools cannot give scholarships.)

Email the coach. Chicago does some recruiting – the coaches will put in a good word with admissions, and this probably helps to some degree (assuming your academics are a good match for Chicago). Chicago is part of the UAA conference, and that conference has much softer recruiting than others (such as NESCAC). But they do recruit.

Your times suggest you are more a middle distance runner. That may help a bit since many Div III schools have lot of distance runners, but seem to have more trouble finding competitive sprinters and middle distance runners.

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into that!
