Hi. I am seriously unhappy at present school and thinking of transferring. One of the schools I'm looking into requires recommendations from my current college dean. Since its such a huge school, there has hardly been an occasion where we had a chance to meet or get up close to the dean. How do I go about this? How did everyone do it? Do I just approach him and ask him to write me a recommendation when he doesn't even know me? Do I have to make an appointment to meet him for some coffee or lunch?? I'm a freshman btw and thinking of leaving next fall -- if I'm lucky. Please advise. Thx.

The College Official’s form is not so much a LOR, but more to get confirmation from your school that you are a student in good standing. I know the form asks for an evaluation, but colleges know that most transfers are not in close contact with their Dean or whoever fills it out for your school.

Sometimes this form is filled out by the Dean, other times your advisor or other official. Go to your department or registrar of your college and ask them who fills it out.

Thank you, entomom, for helping out! Really appreciate the advice. These small things bothered me and I was reluctant to proceed cuz they just all seemed so troublesome. Made me feel much better.
