Second semester B’s won’t get you rescinded. First you need to be accepted to all of these schools, THEN worry about being rescinded. How do you know already that your 2nd semester grades are “straight B’s”?

i KNOW that i haven’t gotten accepted to these colleges
just as i KNOW that my second semester grades haven’t come out yet

i’m just pondering the future since i currently have horrible third quarter grades (B-, B, B, B, A-, C) and trying to find the worst case scenario, though i’m pretty sure getting these grades up somewhat isn’t IMPOSSIBLE

it’s a pretty big drop in grades to my first semester of senior year
4 APs just as in junior year

seriously… hypothetical question
i have reason to believe that i will be accepted to at least one of the former schools
if not for my academic profile then for the status of my high school (and our amazing college guidance counsellor).

so you really think that straight As to straight Bs and a possible C will not get me rescinded from 1st tier colleges?

“i have reason to believe that i will be accepted to at least one of the former schools”

These are all tough, tough schools. There are no admissions guarantees nowadays. That being said, good luck and start studying, NOT cycling, as mom2collegekids said.

Yes, all A grades to all B grades and a C would likely cause at least an inquiry, if not the rescission of the offer of admission. A drop from 4.0 to ~2.8 is alarming and would be cause for the offer’s rescission.

So do study, do get your grades up, and don’t think you can do worse this semester. Get that C to a B and get a B or two to an A and keep that A- and you’ll be fine. I would advise keeping at least a 3.5 GPA this semester.

I’m sure that admissions have been rescinded, but I’d be curious to know how often. Everyone has heard a story, but if the top 10 universities put out (very rough estimate) 25,000 acceptances how many get withdrawn because of grade drop? Are there any statistics on this? My hunch is that legal trouble is more frequently the cause of having your admission denied than grades slipping.

I have a slightly different take because, if you’ve got the goods to be accepted to any of those schools, straight Bs will not get you rescinded, or even draw comment. A couple of Cs would likely even be manageable, given that they wouldn’t be the 1st on your transcript.

So, If you can maintain at your current B-ish level through the end of the school year, then I say get on the bike.

My son has 3 APs this semester, and still manages As while riding about 18-20 hours per week. The key is to come home from school, ride 30-40 miles (2 hours or so) while it’s warm/light out, then eat, do your homework/chill. He saves his long rides for weekends, when he has time to go for 3-5 hours each day.

The key to success in nearly everything at this age is time management. You’re intelligent, or you wouldn’t have applied to those schools. You can make this work if you dial back the slack factor just a bit and use your time wisely.

By the way - most of those schools have excellent club cycling teams! Check them out…
