Getting research published (for people with experience)

Hi, to those who have had experience getting research published or are in the process currently, what steps did you take? How did you eventually get your research/hardwork published in that specific paper? Did you initiate/contact the organization or did they ask you?

I really have no idea how this process works, so if you could elaborate or even give tips that would be fantastic.

How old are you / what level of education are you at?

17, junior in high school. I know I am young, but I also know other high schoolers have gotten research published and wanted to know how. Additionally, if a college professor co-authored my work, it would add credibility
