I'm an incoming junior and I've recently started looking into SAT II Subject Tests. My counselor said she doesn't know much about them and that I would have to find out myself. Should I take two or three tests? What are some recommended materials for studying? I'm interested in Math II and Chemistry. I am taking chemistry all year long and I figured it might be good to take the test after the year. My schedule for the year is below, if that helps.

Semester 1:
Orchestra
Calculus III
AP US History
Advanced Chemistry

Semester 2:
Orchestra
Spanish 4 (after having self-studied Spanish 2 and 3)
AP Language
AP Chemistry

If I forgot to add any information, let me know! Any suggestions or thoughts are helpful. Thank you!

I would recommend that you take both. Math II only covers up to Precalculus. Since you’re in Calculus III, you just need to review some old material to get an 800. As you’re taking AP Chemistry, you should be well prepared for the SAT Subject Test. The AP is more in depth that the subject test.

Alright, thank you! Do you recommend any books or materials for study? Also, is there a third test I could consider taking that might pair well with my schedule? Would it be a good idea to take Biology M, if I plan on a science major possibly related to that field?

I personally didn’t really prepare much for the Math 2, because I took it right after Precalculus, so the content was still fresh in my memory. I personally haven’t taken the SAT Chem yet (I’m taking AP Chem this year as a junior), so my info about that comes from my friends who have taken both the AP and SAT. If you’ve taken a bio class, I guess you could try the Bio M. Some colleges like to see more than 2 tests, so that could serve as your 3rd. If you’re comfortable with/good at Spanish, you could try that subject test as well.

I say take as many as you possibly can. Chemistry will be easy for you; you just need to review extensively because the stuff at the beginning of the course will fade. Math 2 is okay, the barrons book will get you up to speed if youve forgotten some stuff. But take as many as you can. You sound as if you have time if youre an incoming junior and its good to have subject tests across different areas.
