Hey guys,
I recently gave the IESO entrance test (mostly for the challenge of it!) and got ranked in the top 20 and was invited to training camp. since this year the IESO will be held in india, about 6 student would be selected from the 20 and i am pretty confident that i would have got in. The camp was 2 weeks long tough so i decided to skip it - my parents weren't too keen on it as they wanted me to attend the IITJEE coaching classes ( I am in class 11th) and i wanted to make something in the vacations. Now i regret saying no to the camp....

My question is, is a medal in Earth Science of any importance if you aspire to major in CS or EE? Or are only Phemistry/Physics/Informatics/Maths olympiads counted? Should i regret not going there?

I can’t comment on the importance of IESO. An international medal surely shows you have something out of your academics and I think this is enough to put you ahead of a huge bunch of applicants.

But man, you should have gone to the camp. You are just in 11th grade (not in 12th grade to worry about IIT-JEE)!! Also 2 weeks isn’t long!

Hey U should have come…I was part of the team that conducted the camp…loads of fun :)

quiver, I’m very curious to know how you became a part of the conducting team. If you don’t mind…

Damn, i wish i could have come…
@quiverfox - Is there anyway i can still appear for the second level, i.e. the Indian Earth Science Olympiad? I actually would have come but i was unable to get a reservation that soon but i would LOOOOOOOVVVVVVE to give the second round (Sorry i couldn’t PM you, i dont have 15 posts )

@hoping…I was an intern at Teri Inc.(Tata energy resources institute) …they conduct this olympiad with the Indian government…I done a bit for the aired quizzes, written a few books for the ISEO(under their supervision :D), conducted camps etc…

@robots…I’m not too sure you can…but you should try at least…but your reason doesn’t sound too legitimate :(

Come on, you know how indian parents can be - if they dont want to send you they will make a million excuses to prevent you from going - reservation nahi mili, you will miss coaching, its very far to go away, you have ntse, etc etc and since i didn’t want to make them angry, i started rationalizing in my mind :(

Now, i regret not going…

There is no way that they will allow me to participate since i didn’t attend the camp - you are my only hope. You know how competitive international admissions are …

Thanks a lot!

opportunities once lost…can never be redeemed…sorry :(
