Getting the Thick Envelope

Well, we all know we're not going to wait for the envelope but...

does anyone know if the acceptance is in a thick envelope or a thin one and what's inside besides the letter? What does it look like?

Yeah, it's thick. I actually never got to see it because I was at a journalism conference in San Diego when it came in the mail. My parents ripped it open and called me, and they were so excited I couldn't even be mad they opened my mail. But you'll get a fancy certificate saying that Dartmouth College has accepted you with pleasure to the class of 2008 (oh, 2009 for you guys). It's really nice. There's also the acceptance letter, and the thing you send back saying whether or not you will attend. Hmmm...don't remember what else. You don't start getting the fun stuff (DOC trip info, housing info) unil later. You get SO much stuff over the summer that you lose track of what is sent to you--but believe me, that summer is going to be LONG, and you'll be excited to get all the Dartmouth mail. Good luck to everyone!

sounds like a dream

For RD acceptances were also sent out via e-mail on April 1 in adittio to snail mail. I do not know if the same holds true fro ED. Daughter knew before april 1 because she got a likely letter in early March.

Your acceptance will be a folder, with your congratulations letter, certificate, Financial aid award, financing a Dartmouth education and intent to enroll response in addition to a link to their website fro admitted students where you get to chat with other students from 4/1 until move in date) If you are accepted RD, there will be yor invitation to attend dimensions at Dartmouth (a 4-day event for admitted students). ED admissions do not get to attend Dimensions, -which I think is unfair because it is IMHO one of the first bonding moments agmost students as my D is still good friends with her dimension friends.

I applied ED. It was a big envelope, but not thick. Meaning, the letter wasn't folded. But it was just the acceptance letter and the financial aid package.

i have to post because the current # of post for Dartmouth is 666!

athena... did you get the email too? When did it come? (Not that I'm nervous or anything...)

Is it a small one if you're rejected?

Wait, if we get accepted ED, we can't go to Dimensions? WHY?!

Oh, ouch. That's a shame for you guys. You're some of the most enthusiastic members of the future class.

I would assume it's because they want to focus the weekend on roping in the accepted students who are still on the fence, which is something they don't have to worry about for EDers. Man, I feel genuinely bad for you guys right now.

Hmmm, I didn't get an email. Is that a new thing?

They only started the email recently (like 2001 I think?) For some other schools, they even give you a username and password on their admission website and you can log in to check the decision.

Oh and yuck! If I get accepted I'm totally going to Dimensions anyway. Some nice Dartmouth student will be sure to put me up, right? ;)

i thought dartmouth had the username and password system too...no?

no, you don't get a name and password. When I was accepted ED, I just set my alarm at about 5 am mountain time on Dec. 15 (because I had to know THAT badly)- and checked my e-mail. There was an e-mail from Karl Furstenburg (Dean of Admissions)- and the subject was "Early Decision Notification." My heart started beating rapidly, and then I opened the e-mail and the first word was "Congratulations!" And then...a bunch of other stuff, lol. My acceptance letter came like two days later. So- you want to watch for an e-mail on December 15.

That must be a new thing. In 2002, when I was a HS senior, we just got the letter.

Iknow that stats are jsut that, numbers, but what were your stats appro?

yah, it's okay- don't worry, I was last year the way you are now- wanting to know the stats of every person. Um- I knew the SAT wouldn't be a good idea for me, so I took the ACT. I got a 33 on that, which I think is 1470-1500 range, though not quite sure. Um...SAT II scores were all above 700, though I don't remember anything but my writing which was a 780. Unweighted GPA of 3.9 with 8 AP classes.

Um- 5 years of coaching special olympics downhill ski team in my town, nationally ranked Lincoln- Douglas debater, tri-lingual....from Wyoming...that may have helped, though I hear it doesn't really. I was the president of a few clubs and held roles in others...I wrote my essay on growing up on a ranch and having a yak ranch. I don't know what else...haven't had to list things for so long, I don't really remember all that I put down.

Best of luck!

thanks :-)
