Getting to city of Rochester

While we did visit campus(which we loved!), it was hard to tell how easy it is to get into the city. Is there a bus or shuttle?
Do many students go into the city, for dinner out or to see a concert, visit comic book shop, etc?

UR runs variety of free shuttles for students.

Students can also ride the city buses for $1 each way with UR ID.

There’s a flat rate and discounted fare taxi program for students if they want to go somewhere that shuttles/buses don’t run or if they need to go before/after the buses are running.

There’s also a Zip Car station on campus. (Hourly car rentals)

I’d say it’s very common to go off campus somewhere on the weekends.

Very common to go shopping or elsewhere. Many take a shuttle south the 10 minutes to the mall and stores in Henrietta. Sororities, etc. have events at restaurants/clubs downtown, etc.

This is Creekland’s son, freshly arrived home from college for the holidays. As WayOutWestMom shows via the provided links, there are many options for getting off campus. If you want to go someplace you will never be “stuck” on campus. Many students use both the shuttles and the other means for getting “away.” You will just have to find the transport that best suits your needs.

From my experience, the majority of students use the shuttles (which, as mentioned, are all free!). If I wish to go into the city for an Eastman concert, visit the many museums, or relax at any of the quaint coffee shops, I would ride the Red line. The Green line is used for going to Wegmans (the college student’s best friend), Walmart, the movies, or any of the other shopping areas. Plus, for any of these lines, it is a simple matter of walking the rest of the way to where you’re going.

Generally I go off campus on weekends as I’m really busy during the week with classes and activities. Some people do go during the week. Those people give me the curve. ;)

Also, College town just opened and there is a Barnes and Noble there and other stores. It is located right next to the Medical center and I believe there may be some shuttles to get there or I believe you can rent bikes for free on the campus. Here is the transportation link. <a href=“Transportation : Services : Wilson Commons Student Activities : University of Rochester”>http://rochester.edu/college/wcsa/services/transportation.html</a></p>
