So... I go to Stanford a lot for meetings because of an organization I chair and because I have a class that is seriously across the street from it once a week. Everytime I step foot on that campus, I get this really inexplicable feeling - it just feels RIGHT to me. Everything about the enviornment, the people.. yeah it just fits. :)

For a while now, I've looked up tons and tons of information on the school, I've gone on the tour, talked to two friends I have there... but I want to take advantage of the time I spend on campus and get to know the school more thoroughly. Very few prospective students get the chance that I get to be on campus, see people, see daily activites, etcetc.

...Basically, I want to make sure that Stanford is where I want to apply SCEA.

Do you guys have any ideas as to how I should approach this? I'd love to sit and talk with a science professor or maybe just approach a random student? ...or SOMETHING. But I feel as if I'm this random little high school kid sitting on campus asking about something WAY too big for himself ahahah.

Anyway, any advice would be GREAT. I know this is probably unusual but... yeah. Thanks! :)

Sit in on a class! Talk to a student! Do it! Hahaha, you really do have a unique opportunity, so go take advantage of it. When I went to visit colleges (not including Stanford, actually, because I couldn’t afford to fly out to California from NY to visit), I would always sit in on classes, talk to random students and even go to the departments I was interested in. It’s so much more valuable than taking a tour. Students are friendly…and they get it all the time.

If you can see yourself there for four years, do it. After all SCEA is non-binding, unlike ED. If you get in, you don’t even have to go…you can still have other options.

What area are you thinking of studying? You mentioned a science professor? If you’re looking for a prof in math or physics to talk to, pm me and I’ll send you some contact info for the people you want to talk to.

i should probably clarify what i want to study haha. i am planning on majoring in biochemistry and/or neuroscience.. with some psychology in there somewhere.

sly si, i sent you a pm.

Stanford’s really open-just ask. btw, do you go to Paly, Gunn, MA or somewhere else, if you don’t mind.

^Mission San Jose. Sometimes I wish I went to Paly though … they send like 20+ kids a year :(.

true, true…MA sent 11 kids this year I think…kind of crazy, don’t you think?
Paly’s a good school, but the whole Bay Area is pretty good in general I think.
