Getting to Know You =P

Name: Hailey

Music: My music tastes are pretty diverse/changing but currently - The Libertines, Damien Rice, The Postal Service, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, DMB, Ben Folds, Greenday, Garden State Soundtrack, The Cure, Reverend Horton Heat, John Mayer, The Strokes, Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel.... generally love 50's stuff/oldies, classical music (esp Baroque), new age, inde stuff, rock, emo , alternative, acid jazz, etc etc.
Movies: mostly inde/artsy or funny stuff- Memento, Fight Club, Moulin Rouge, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (b/c senioritis is hilarious), Zoolander (b/c guys, there is more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good-looking) BROADWAY
Television: I dont really watch too much b/c i like being out and doing things but Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, and American Idol (for rocker Bo Bice only!), baseball
Free time: Friends, Guitar/music, running, school stuff, procrastinating school stuff, hating on the Red Sox, used to read a lot but when the senioritis kicked in I just didnt have the the desire/patience

Savetheday - i love your movie taste

** Name: ** George

** Location: ** New Jersey

** Ethnicity: ** Chinese

** Music: ** okay, I won't give the generic 'I have very eclectic music tastes and am generally open to anything' answer, though I just did. Actually, I'm more of an indie music fan - check out http://audioscrobbler.com/user/altsuperhero/ - so yeah, basically Belle and Sebastian, Built to Spill, Neutral Milk Hotel, Decemberists, Grandaddy, Long Winters, Pedro the Lion, Stars, Straylight Run, Wrens, Rilo Kiley, Wilco, Tilly and the Wall, Sun Kil Moon, Sufjan Stevens - the list goes on ... ... haha, everyone loves the Garden State Soundtrack -Death Cab, Postal Service, Dntel, Shins, Nick Drake, Iron and Wine, everything ...

** Movies: ** agree with Hailey on the indie/artsy/just-plain-different genre - Pi, Memento, Requiem for a Dream, 12 Monkeys, Magnolia, Fight Club, Seven, anything Coen Brothers, Battle Royale, Apocalypse Now, anything Tarantino, most distopian movies (and books), mind-f**** like Cube, Donnie Darko, and so forth ... and I'll admit that I'm a closet sap for dramas - well, everyone likes Shawshank, Gump, etc. ... and Miyazaki is pretty sweet ... and I'll admit that the trailers for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Star Wars: Episode III beg me to go see them ...

** Television: ** hmm, I used to watch television in moderation, then completely shunned it, and am now starting to get back in the rhythm ... there aren't too many shows that I want on a weekly basis, but the shows that I've watched and enjoyed the most are probably Law and Order: Criminal Intent, House (he reminds me of my old math teacher), The West Wing (used to watch, still enjoy every once in a while - and by every once in a while, I mean maybe once every two months), Seinfeld, Simpsons (great way to waste that chunk between 6:00 and 8:00 PM if you've nothing better to do), Cartoon Network's adult swim (great way to waste that chunk between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM on something other than sleep or homework ... but I usually just watch whatever my friend tapes/TiVo's) ... eh, maybe I watch more television than I thought ...

** Free time: ** the whole friends bit, listening to music, reading (binge reader right here - actually, I think I wrote one of my essays on that .... yeah, what was I thinking), napping (really, those mid-afternoon naps really recharge you for a long night of anything - working or chilling with friends), writing (yes, yes, I enjoy the sight of my own words ... haha) ...

For all you Pton CC-ers, I hope you've joined the yahoo princetonclassof2009 e-mail group.

George... I heart Donny Darko..and your music/movie tastes..and i've been meaning to see requiem but havent had the guts to do so yet ( iw as told by a number of friends to wait till i'm older to see it lol, but i love the soundtrack). i've been talking to some jersey natives for the scoop on their music scene (there's apparently plenty to find in terms of punk/ska/jam) which we can own when we get there annnnnd i found out there's an inde movie theater in the area .

haha, yeah, I got the feeling we had very similar interests from one of your earlier posts on the music scene

but, oh man, irving plaza, maxwells, bowery ballroom and everything else in nyc/hoboken only a train ride away ... and don't forget the philly scene (which I've yet to really check out)

Hailey, you'll love homestate jersey

oh, I remember first watching requiem at a summer camp at 2 in the morning ... it was quite intense ... I've tried to duplicate that experience (watching it during the summer in the wee morning hours) every year ...

and yes, central jersey is filled with punk/quasi-emo/post-grunge/screamo/jam bands

but one thing I didn't see at April Hosting were Princeton based bands ... college bands ... is that a dying/extinct/forgotten breed?

Not at other colleges...but Princeton doesn't have much of a homegrown music scene. That could be changing, however, with a new jazz club coming up in town, as well as USG and others trying to increase student performances in the Forbes Blackbox and at Frist. The eating clubs sometimes have student bands too. So hopefully, the lack of a big live student music scene will be changing for the better. One of the reasons why I would've loved to go to UT was because they have a huge live student-band music scene. I doubt Princeton'll ever get to that level, but at least they're trying to improve it.
