Getting to know you

Alright, nine interesting things about you.
Go!

I have an identical twin, she is my complete opposite, but I love her.

I am left-handed and one inch short of being a legal midget (I’m five feet exactly).

I am currently a little bit addicted to tattoos. I just got on a month ago-a cool starry design on my lower back (it’s hard to explain what it looks like). Within the next week I’m going to get a picture of a sun, moon, star, and raindrops going vertically down the back of my neck (from the E.E. Cummings poem “Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town”). Yeah, I’m young and I’m going to do things that I regret, but at least I bring some of my love for literature into my teenage rebellion!

I can have fun doing almost anything. I’m definitely the type of girl who can stay in and watch a movie on a Saturday night, play a board game (Balderdash and scrabble are my personal favorites), go out to a party (with/or without being drunk. I have enough energy to do the whole “high on life” thing, but I’m not opposed to the occasional drunken night every once in a while); go to the Ballet, a concert, a play, just out for coffee, or froyo (my life blood), you name it.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve set my alarm and microwave to odd times. For instance, when I set my alarm in the morning to wake up for swimming, I set it to 5:32 a.m, instead of 5:30. If I want to microwave some instant oatmeal (I eat a lot of it, not sure why), I set it to 1:43, instead of 1:45. I’m not sure why, but it’s just become habit.

While I claim to be an elitist indie kid when it comes to music, I have a secret love for hip hop, pop-punk, and, of course, ska.

I am a waitress at a local cafe (and consequently ADDICTED to coffee, or any form of caffeine for that matter). Unlike most high schoolers I know, I love my job.

I am kind of addicted to working out. I LOVE being active-whether it’s swimming, kickboxing, surfing, running, biking, just going to the gym, I need some way to use my energy.

I want to: learn how to play acoustic guitar, speak Spanish fluently, learn a different language (either Hebrew of Arabic), travel a lot, write (I love writing), act, direct a play, etc., etc., etc. I would also really like to be a hipster, but I enjoy the comfort and simplicity of my jeans, sweatshirt and messy ponytail far too much to put any effort into that whole image.

Post!

-Jess

i would post, but i cant think of 9 interesting things about myself!

My brother was born exactly a year after me, on my birthday. He's been a major annoyance ever since.

I'm madly in love with trousers. Dress pants of any kind make me happy beyond belief; currently, it's charcaol gray with slash pockets.

I am crafty in ways that no teenager will admit to being. I've crocheted since I was seven, I sew (I'm in the middle of making my prom dress), and yesterday, I taught myself to knit.

I want my nose pierced soooooo bad, but my parents won't have it as long as I'm under their roof. I'm really hoping I can find a good piercing place in Providence, preferrably as soon as I get there.

I have not listened to the radio for at least eight months. I like music, but my room has only one working electrical outlet, and I'd much rather have light.

My family has six kids, and my mom stays at home with us. I'm the oldest; the youngest is eighteen months old. No, it's not because my parents are Catholic, although they are; my mom just really likes kids.

I've only been out of Ohio three times in my entire life, plus once as a fetus.

My boyfriend has longer hair than me- by far.

Before I die, I need to get my Goth on, learn French, swing dance, get me some piercings, kick a grown man in the balls, write a novel, visit another country, and force myself to care about something political.

My brother was born close to exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks, and 2 hours after me. And there are only 2 of us.

I love to travel. I've been to at least 30 states (maybe 40), Mexico, South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Republic of Ireland, Great Britain (England + Wales), and several other countries.

I was born in Arkansas, moved to urban California, spent an interim in rural Native American Oklahoma, moved back to urban California, and now I live in a metropolis in Florida (they lie when they call Orlando a city).

I've never seen snow fall in reality. I also think 70 degrees is cold, and 65 is downright freezing. It's a good thing I like to shiver then?

I love western art history. Nothing makes me happier (maybe I'm exaggerating) than discussing art history... mmm, Klimt! Munch, Matisse. I love, particularly, mannerism (del Sarto's "Madonna of the Harpies" anyone?), post-impressionism, and I have a soft spot for Daumier and Ingres with his digustingly corpulent subjects.

I have a queer love for all things British... or specfically, English. I'll admit; I'm a fanatic. I'm Vietnamese American, but I would give up my current identity if I could just simply be British.

I'm bilingual (Vietnamese + English). I'm learning conversational Hebrew and I "know" basic Latin. I pick up some Spanish and Urdu here and there due to the influence of friends. My goal is to know 10 languages fluently by the time I'm 30.

My best friends and I make up the real-life Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. One is going to a school for architecture design (our real-life Lena) but not RISD, one (the replica of Carmen) is going to Williams (also Carmen's school), and my friend and I are going to NYU and Brown, respectively. However, she's Bridget and I'm Tibby, so our schools are kinda reversed.

I have an insane memory for stupid details that makes me seem really stalkerish sometimes.

I've been a vegetarian by choice since I was 6 years old (no one else in my family has been a vegetarian for more than a couple weeks).

My ability to remember things is directly proportional to my level of interest in them. For things that I find really interesting, I have a nearly photographic memory. Fortunately for me I find lots of things interesting.

My handwriting peaked in legibility in third grade and has gone downhill ever since. At this point I can barely read my own notes, and several teachers have banned me from handwriting homework assignments.

Though for years I denied that I had any idea what I wanted to study/do with my life, I've been passionately interested in anything relating to the brain since 5th grade or so.

I've played 3 different spring sports in 4 years of highschool.

I love putting myself into situations where I'll have to work, even though I hate working and am horrifically lazy.

I've undergone a radical personality shift every year since 6th grade; for the most part this has been intentional (I think I'm finally starting to get somewhere I like).

3 out of 4 of my best friends, I've known since I was 2 years old.

At various points in my life, I have actively tried to develop habbits, such as caffeine addiction and pencil twirling.

i hate people

i love animals

i am a music elitist...with no exceptions

i am addicted to Family Guy and video games

i dont do any drugs...but i do want to try LSD at some point

i love to argue

i hate the catholic church and yet i am considering georgetown

i love my car with 120,000 miles.

i am the procrastination master. no one can beat my procrastination skills. all those who dare to try, dont. i started a 30pg paper for AP gov on 12am the day it was due because i had to watch Adult Swim.

...im not too interesting a person. sorry bout that.

i am absolutely obsessed with starbucks, and i always get the same thing. caramel macchiato with extra caramel upside down, with extra whip <3

i'm quite possibly the only ex-cheerleader fencer i know who loves politics (somebody prove me wrong and IM me!!)

i named my ipod video Oliver and love it to death. it's quite possibly better than a boyfriend :)

i love making lists. on my laptop, i use Sticknotes and i just jot down all of my lists whenever i feel like it and i like to look at it ... and then i procrastinate of course

i almost didn't apply ED to brown because i was really scared i wouldn't get in

i LOVE "she's the man" with bynes <3 <3

i enjoy reading everything except austen (i had to slug through pride and prejudice :()

i am obsessed with polo shirts

i have a desperate wish to turn sarcastic and sullen

I've been living in Texas for almost three years now. I lived in Seoul before I came here, all my life. I find my neighboring area really really boring, so I can't wait till I get to Providence. I hate driving. And I hate the fact that I can't get anywhere without a car. I miss my freedom of movement that I had in Seoul.

So, as I mentioned that I lived in Seoul, I am Korean. I am a weirdo; though I speak Korean better (obviously! Try moving to another country when you're 16!) I feel more comfortable speaking English. Don't know why. My best friends' favorite thing to do is making fun of my English. The first reaction they had when they found out my classrank was, "OMG! I can't wait till your graduation! Nobody's gonna understand and we'll point at you and laugh!" Yes, and I call them my friends. <3

I have so many things that I want to do. I want to take physics, chemistry, geology and economics from Brown. I know. I only have so many hours a day. Somebody needs to shoot me in my head so that I stop hallucinating that I can somehow manage to do them all.

If you play a video during class, I automatically fall asleep within five minutes, unless I am staring at a wall or working on something else. Today, my 20th century history teacher warned my class that if we don't pay attention, including sleeping, she'd give a test over the video. And she was looking at me. I HATE VIDEOS!

I talk a lot. And by a lot, I mean A LOT.

bobbobbob loves his car. I hate my car. My car has +260,000 miles on it. It's 4 years younger than me, much older than my brother. It doesn't start when it's cold. (yes, it gets cold in Texas. And by cold, I mean 30~40 degrees.) But it runs so well. I've never tried driving beyond 80mph, (too many cars and cops) but so far, it's incredible that it runs so well.

I am a night person. But I am more productive early in the morning after sleep. What does this mean? I am never productive, unless I fall asleep at night working on an assignment due the following day and wake five in the morning to finish it in two hours. And recently, senioritis got me really badly, so I can't wake up in the morning. I am such a slacker.

I can count. That's why 6 is here, not after 5. :P I am really clumsy. I hear a lot from my parents and friends that they can't believe that I am smart. Some people want to disect my brain to see what's wrong with it.

I am in love with people. I am a crybaby. I whine a lot (in a cute way, I say, but no one agrees). But my whining is in extension of my talking a lot, not genuine complaints. I luuuuuuuuuuve food. I am random. You should notice. :P

My best friends' favorite thing to do is making fun of my English.

Dont you mean engrish?

hahhahahaha im so clever.

"I hear a lot from my parents and friends that they can't believe that I am smart."

hehe :) i don't know about the RD letter but the ED letter doesn't start out with CONGRATS so i had to read the letter twice before i figured out i got in hehe.. my friends said i was smart enough to get in, but not smart enough to realize it :P

bobbobbob: No, not engrish, but eengriiiiisheeee.

And I just remember when I checked my decision online, I thought there was a glitch or something 'cause I couldn't believe I was in. I didn't believe it until I saw my (crappy) financial aid package. First thing after realizing it I did was to print the letter out and put on the refrigerator. My brother got scared of me for a momemt 'cause I was screaming behind his back (and I am really loud).

I remember seeing the word, "offer" on my friend's letter from Stanford and I was screaming for him, then, he reminded me that "it says they offer "waitlist" not admission." Yup, I can read.

1.) I think "The Office" is the most amazing show in the history of television.
2.) My school is really easy and I consequently do less than 30 minutes of homework every day.
3.) I scored a 1600 on the old SAT and still got rejected by Harvard, Yale, Princeton, U Penn, AND waitlisted at WUStL - but I do love Brown :)
4.) I am a musical elitist by association (my friends refuse to listen to anything else) and consequently I listen to hip-hop (really LOUD) only when I'm driving by myself
5.) I am a liberal, yet Ayn Rand is my absolute hero.
6.) I moved from Southern California (the OC!) to rural NE Ohio less than three years ago...
7.) My favorite band is CAKE - they are positively orgasmic
8.) I judge people who are religious.
9.) I've told myself that I wanted to be a lawyer since Middle School - yet I think I would have to die if I became one (aka: I had a plan for life, but now anything I do seems meaningless from a philosophical/moral perspective - note: NOT moral in a religious sense)
--- one extra for good luck 10.) I argue things I don't believe when I get bored...

1.) I hate bow-ties
2.) I once took all the pennies from the "take-a-penny-leave-a-penny" in the convenience store and bought a thing of gum with them.
3.) I live in GOODE. population <1000
4.) I play those little ad games on the internet for fun (like "throw the football through the hoop and win a free playstation").
5.) I remember the theme music from every movie I have ever seen.
6.) I can solve a Rubik's Cube in about a minute.
7.) I have had an insatiable craving for cracker jacks since last thursday
8.) I can juggle.
9.) I have a fear of things that buzz and fly.

P.S. I too love "The Office." It is one of my favorite shows, second only to "Arrested Development."

i am highly obsessed with tea

my favorite movie is mulholland drive

i am extremely afraid of pigeons

i am curently working on making a bag.. i will be shoping for a nice paisley fabric for its front pocket tomorrow

i enjoy the sounds of eisley, alana davis, ani difranco, hop along, bright eyes, and ben harper

i am a major RENThead

i have recently swore off buying jewlery.. and i now make my own out of buttons

this fall im going to die because of the rule against burning candles in our dorms.. whats a girl to do..?

i recently saw natalie portman, my second favorite actress, in virgin records in the village. i got very excited.

i am wearing my grey sweatpants that say Brown down the leg right now!

Mulholland Drive is one kick ass movie...

doesnt hurt that Naomi Watts is in it either.

it is so amazing. took me a couple dozen times to understand what was going on, but still awesome

haha yea it does take a few times to figure it out. lynch is so crazy hes brilliant.

For those of you who like the office, I would REALLY suggest watching the Brown student-produced show ELECTED, a satirical mockumentary about the Brown Undergraduate Council of Students. You can download entire episodes at www.electedtv.com .

I am over six feet tall and my boyfriend of almost two years is 5' 10''. And I love it. More girls should do it. It's just about the best thing in the world.

I have an irrational fear of sitting next to people I don't know in movie theatres and airplanes. And of airplanes crashing while I'm in that tiny airplane bathroom.

I have no real desire to be a doctor, I hate needles/shots/drawing blood/surgery, but I love the TV show "House".

I get really unhappy when it gets over 80 degrees. If I could live somewhere where it was 25 all winter, 65 in the summer but with bright sun year round (I think I'm solar powered), I would be the happiest person on the face of the planet. Can anyone tell me where that might be?

I love travel, but have started to hate tours. I took student tours to China, France and most recently Costa Rica, and I'm not really the biggest fan. I've also been to the Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, Bequia, and St. John.

I love baby spinach and feta salads. Even better with green apples, cranberries and maybe grilled chicken. And I'm not jewish, but could eat chocolate covered matzoh for the rest of my life.

At the moment, my favorite songs are Outkast's "Bombs over Baghdad", KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and Cherry Tree", Pink's "Stupid Girls", Mindless Self Indulgence's "Straight to Video", and Barenaked Ladies' "Alcohol". Go figure. My brother thinks I'm insane.

How many are we supposed to do? 9? Ok, anyway. I like the numbers 2, 24 and 154, but I'm not sure why. I think I just picked them out of the blue when someone asked me my favorite numbers and I didn't have any. And they stuck I guess.

I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I tell people I might want to be a professor, but I don't know what of. I feel like I have two or three lives I want to live, but I have to pick one, and I really don't know which one to pick. Seems cliche and depressing, I know, but it's the truth. And for the record I'm really not a melancholy/introverted person. Really.

i'm a PLME person (one of the "future doctors") and i'm very excited about coming to brown.
1. i'm not an alcoholic or a smoker, but i'm still a party girl :)
2. i have a beautiful wonderful bf that i'm leaving behind in cali :( sigh
3. i was one of the few "nerds" in high school who knew how to balance work
and play
4. my friends tell me they can't distinguish my sarcastic tone of voice from
my normal tone of voice
5. i own too many articles of clothing and am always trying to reinvent
myself through my wardrobe
6. i have a pair of $2 sandals that i've worn for a billion years (although my
mother keeps threatening to throw the "horrible things" away)
7. i have two siblings, and i think i've set some terrible examples for both of
them (sneaking out of the house, lying to parents, being very "close" with
my boyfriend, etc.) except when it comes to grades and such
8. i'm a little asian girl
9. i would LOVE to study abroad. i've never been out of the US before!
