I'm going to be in Boston next week.
I really think this is a perfect time to visit both Mount Holyoke and Smith for overnights.
But I'm going to be alone (without a parent to get a rental car).
There are buses to and from Boston. And in between the colleges.

Does this even sound logical to visit both alone for overnights?
I'm very independent and I have traveled though Belgium and Japan alone, but being alone in the middle of Western Mass is kinda freaking me out!

Any advice would be much appreciated!!!
I really want to get a feel for both colleges!

You should double check the overnight policy at both schools. I’m pretty sure that at Smith at least you have to be a senior to do an overnight and you can only do overnights on weekdays, you can’t do them on weekends. MHC might be different. Also, Smith’s admissions office is only open half day on Saturdays and it’s closed on Sundays.

At this point in the game you’ll only be able to do an official overnight at Smith if you’re an admitted student (high school senior or transfer). If you can find a host on your own without going through the admissions office, it’s all your own legwork (do you know any current Smith students?).

It’s easy to get between Smith and Mount Holyoke on the PVTA. The student ticket for Peter Pan from Boston to Northampton is about $20 each way (and it’s an easy 5-10 minute walk to Smith from the Northampton bus station). The bus station is at South Station in Boston, and it’s really easy to get there from just about anywhere.

(I just searched considering’s posts, and she looks like an admitted student, so yes, you can do an overnight from Monday-Thursday evenings. Call the admissions office ASAP! I don’t know how it works at MHC.)

Wow thank you so much for the information.
I am a senior, an admitted student, and I actually will be there during the week.
The PVTA bus looks really convenient!
This is why I applied to Seven Sister colleges. It’s one big caring network of helpful women!

Make sure to bring a towel. Douglas Adams references aside, I always told my overnight prospies to make sure to bring their own towel. You’ll need it for showering and it saves your host laundry (a lot of students only have two towels, and one is probably dirty at any given time).
