getting to NYC

is it hard to get to NYC if you don't have a car? do people go there often just for the night?

No and yes.

Trains, buses, airplane and taxis/hired cars all go into NYC every minute of every day. People go into the City all of the time just for the night -- to go see a show or a concert, to go to bars or clubs, to eat at restaurants ... happens every night of the year.

lol is the airplane ride like 5 minutes

One of the things I love about Rutgers is that the city's very accessible. The NJ transit station is right off the College Avenue campus on the corner of Albany St. and Easton Ave. Tickets are roughly around $9 for one-way (peak) and $16 for round-trip (off-peak) and travel time is around 45 minutes depending on whether you take a local or express train. You have to plan you're trip wisely if you're staying late because the last train from Penn Station to New Brunswick is at 1:40am and another one wont come until 5:00am. Since 1:40am is pretty early, many people including myself opt to stay in the city until the 5am train.

nyc is very accessible from rutgers. also, nj transit offers free rides throughout the year for students.

how do you get free rides for students

they'll usually have promotions and all you need to do is show your student id card to ride for free.

Yeah you definitly don't want to drive to/in new york. traffic is stupid the drivers are crazy and parking is horendous...Nj transit is the way to go. You cna also get to philly pretty easily as well....it's nice .. you should try it some time ... honest.
