What's the best way to get to John Wayne Airport from the UCI campus, for a student with no car? The flight is at an inconvenient time (early am, Thanksgiving day) so don't want to impose on friends with cars.

I was thinking calling a cab would be the only option....is there a bus or anything?

It's good to know the airport is so close. I knew the airport grounds were pretty close as I had driven past, but at some airports the actual terminals are a long way from the edge of the property.

Re. your question, I'm not a freshman, I'm a MOF ....(mother of freshman.)

oooh no! we can't swipe laundry machines. yeah isn't it HORRIBLE!!! *gasp gasp

I really don't think it would be an inconvience for a friend to take your freshman to the airport. It isn't far at all. All you gotta do is ask.

But if not...the taxis aren't too expensive here.

For 3.5 miles, a taxi sounds much easier and can take your student from the UCI dorm directly to the airport, but following is the local bus info...

The airport is close enough that people in the dorms who have cars should be willing to drive them. Because it's a smaller airport, drop-off and pick-up is very easy and you don't ever have to go on any major streets (let alone freeways) to get there. I used to drop people off at the airport all the time and it's no hassle at all. Maybe 10-15 minutes round trip for the driver.

...the question is...will there be anyone with a car around on Thanksgiving morning...

...if there is a bulletin board on the lobby of your dorm, just post a note that you are looking for a ride to the airport and see if anyone responds...

What's the best location for a taxi to pick people up? I keep hearing stories of people's cabs or shuttles arriving really late because they get lost driving to campus -__-

If you want a pickup point at a really obvious landmark, have them pick you up at the Albertson's market across from the school on Campus Drive. That Albertson's has been there for 30 years...
