Getting to Vassar from Princeton

I'm on a college tour right now and I want to visit Vassar really bad. I'm at Princeton right now and I get freed up around 1:00 or 2:00 tomorrow. I can take an Amtrak to Poughkeepsie, but the first train tomorrow doesn't leave until 10:00 (and it doesn't arrive until past midnight!). Any alternative modes of transportation you guys would suggestion?

Thanks.

From a super quick search it looks as though you can take a bus to Port Authority from Princeton. Then you would want to take the Metro-North train (from Grand Central station) which brings you to Poughkeepsie, a short taxi ride from campus. Much quicker and probably quite a bit cheaper too. You probably already figured this out.

^ I hadn’t, so thank you. I’m on an overnight with a freshman friend here so I was super busy last night and only had time for the forum post. My friend and her suite mates are at classes now so I’m kicking off my search, and your lead gives me a great place to start. I really appreciate it. :)

Quick update to round out the thread. I got to Vassar exactly like you recommended, chris’mom, and I am so thankful for your advice. Vassar is beautiful. The trees were gorgeous even in their winter sleep, the buildings were awe-inspiring, the campus was quiet and unbroken by streets (I love that), and what little I saw of Poughkeepsie was quaint and friendly.

I was thrilled when both my best friend and I got in last night. He will likely matriculate, I think, because before now his top college choice was Rhodes. I will probably go to Princeton myself, but Vassar will always hold a place in my heart.

My thanks go out to all the kind souls in this forum who helped me discover Vassar. It truly is a magical place and I am so glad to have known it.

Glad the trip worked out and congratulations on your acceptances! Both my kids have gone to Vassar so I have become fond of it myself.
