Getting to William & Mary

How does everyone here travel to W&M? What airports, shuttle services, car rentals, best friends, etc. do you use.

Thanks

The easiest way to fly is the Newport News airport, about 20 miles away, but only USAir, AirTran and Delta fly there - so unless you live in Atlanta, Orlando, Boston, Philadelphia, NYC, Fort Lauderdale, or Charlotte, you can't get a direct flight.

The Richmond and Norfolk airports, each about an hour away from campus, have a much wider variety of airlines. You can get a cab from either of these airports to campus.

Greyhound and Amtrak both have stops in Williamsburg as well.

ReninDetroit basically covered it...

personally I drive. You can probably get someone to pick you up, or if you share a cab fair with another person, it's pretty reasonable.

yep, renindetroit covered it well. With Jamestown 400 coming soon, traffic will be a nightmare! We live an hour away....45 minutes if you are meeting a deadline! (smiles)

Arriving by Plane:

Newport News/Williamsburg Airport is about 30 minutes from campus. Williamsburg is also served by the Richmond International and Norfolk International Airports, each about one hour away.

Shuttle service is available to William & Mary from all three airports by advanced reservation.

on breaks, the school also runs vans to different airports

Soccerguy315 - What is the cost of the vans rides to the airports?

I dunno... I've never used them b/c I live in Northern VA, but I will find out. Information about the ones for Spring Break should be coming out soon.

... maybe one of the other WM students that post on here knows the answer?

The vans that the school runs to the airports (and back) go to and from approximately every 2 hours. These are free. There are also shuttle services you can take, but those are a bit pricey (30ish one way). They don't have the shuttle service for Winter break because everyone leaves and comes back at different times, but I believe they have it for Fall, Thanksgiving, and Spring break.
