Did you study or take a class beforehand? Because if not you can probably improve a lot with practice. I was tutored for 2 months and didn’t really go crazy with studying and improved by over 300 pts. One on one tutoring worked very well for me since they target the exact type of problem you have trouble with and then practice it with you. I have never taken an sat class but I presume that it is not quite so individualized. Good luck!

Yes, I’ve done maybe, 5 practice tests total? And I went to More than a Teacher courses, which really don’t do anything one on one, but they just teach you tips and tricks for the SAT, which really doesn’t help. Do you suggest I just keep doing practice tests and figure out which types of problems I’m having trouble with?

My S took a Princeton Review prep class in his junior year. It met once a week, each Sunday for 3 hours @2-5pm from Thanksgiving until March. He sat for the March SAT exam. His score went from an 1800 with no study or prep to 2200 after finishing the class.

Damn, do you know the specifics of the class? Like the teaching style and whatnot?

On my first SAT, I got an 1850. On the March SAT, after a lot of practice, I pulled a 2120. Basically, I did a bunch of practice tests at home, and took the express version of an online prep class- eprep. I’d try out the free trial to see if you like it, but that and about 7 practice tests from the blue book brought me up 270 points.

If you don’t want to do the full practice tests, just do what you think is your weakest section. I’m not one of those who thinks math is the easiest portion, but after doing a bunch of math sections from the Kaplan book I raised my score from a 560 to a 690.

You can google “Princeton Review” and call the number provided and ask them all your questions! They can tell you what classes are in your area. When I first looked the classes were $1000, but when I was ready to sign him up, they were running a “special” for $600. So I would be sure to ask them for the lowest possible price for that class and they will probably work with you if they want to get you in there. I felt the $600 was well spent, and I plan to sign my younger S up when the time comes. (he’s just a freshman now). There is a strategy to taking the test and the professional teachers can give you guidance. I have no regrets by spending the money in this way. Just be sure to set aside the time to go to the classes once a week and to be serious about it, it should pay off for you, good luck.

I took a Summit course at my school that cost $700 dollars but I was able to get financial aid for it. I had to miss a lot because of Sports practice but my score went from a 1700 to an 1800. Does anyone know where I can get one-on-one tutoring in the Boston area or what sites can you direct me to.
thanks,

Also, I suggest not to take the expensive class courses as they only read from the $40 dollar book. I could have probably gotten more from just studying on my own.
