Getting wisdom teeth taken out

Pineapple…huh. If I remember I might try that. I know sleeping will be hard for me since I sleep on my side with my face resting on my arm so we’ll see how that turns out. I’m guessing I just won’t get much sleep for awhile.

I had one taken out a couple years ago. The dentists asked if I wanted the other 3 out just in case/for the heck of it. They never hurt and he saw no immediate problem before, so I said naw (pun intended).

This has been one of the better advice given threads I’ve seen. Really, OP, everything said here is great. The dentist will make sure to give enough meds so you don’t need to feel much pain, only some variant soreness right afterwards, but as long as you keep the new open wound clean for a while, then you won’t get dry socket or an infection. Caution is the way of the game. Luckily, your mouth is the fastest healing part of your body, so the wounds should close up in no time.

Pain is the least of it. Being able to eat is the sucker.

Yeah, as I said before, I’m pretty gutted about not being able to eat all of the food at the festival…but it gives me an excuse to buy a souvenir cup for my smoothies and wine slushies so it’s not all bad.

The after-effects of your surgery completely depends on the severity of your surgery and how your body normally deals with pain. You don’t have any impacted teeth, which is a good start.

Personally, I have an extremely high pain tolerance, so when I got my wisdom teeth pulled, I didn’t need the painkillers - I only used them for the first day just in case. Moreover, I didn’t swell at all. I’d say that was just about the easiest wisdom teeth recovery anyone’s had.

If you don’t have a good pain tolerance or are prone to swelling, don’t expect your recovery to be as easy as mine. It’s seriously no big deal though, and after a day or two, you’ll be fine. Most people have to go through the surgery. Have a good friend bring you some ice cream and watch movies with you for the first day!

Well my surgeon expects the surgery to be easy (although we all know that sometimes things don’t go as expected). I don’t really know if my mouth is prone to swelling or not. I bite my cheeks a lot and it used to be that it would swell a ton but now it doesn’t swell as much, probably because I have permanent scar tissue so that’s what I’m biting. So I guess I’ll probably swell a good bit.

I’m hoping to be good to go by Saturday (my surgery is Thursday morning) because I really want to go to my town’s big festival which runs Friday-Sunday, but Saturday is the best day of it and Sunday is the worst (Friday is in the middle, but I’m guessing I won’t feel up to going down there then).

I highly recommend that you get them out. I should have and did not do it. I am suffering now because of it. If i had taken care of it when i had my parents excellent health insurance then it would be much easier to deal with.

My idea about wisdom teeth was that:
-They are a natural part of your body, so why should you have to get them removed forcibly?
-i wondered if the urge to remove them was just a dental conspiracy.
-Really is it just a way for dentists to make some good money, before you are fully grown?

I was the only one in my family that refused to have them out. So, now i have two partially erupted wisdom teeth that i can’t properly clean because they are surrounded by gums that sometimes swell and cover them partially. There are more technical terms for that and i am very sorry if it sounds gross. I really just wanted to let you know that you should go ahead with getting them out because they can cause issues later on.

I am getting them out (you would know that if you read my OP - I said my appointment is May 31). One of my wisdom teeth is only partially erupted so I know what you’re talking about. I think the other 3 are fully erupted but don’t fit right etc.

I have mine and one of them has just recently broke the surface and is now above the gum… I have braces (have had them for about a year) and have to get my wisdom teeth out before I go to college (i.e. in the next couple of months).

Well in a couple of weeks I’ll let you know how my experience with it was  I’m really hoping it’s not too bad, but I can’t help but be nervous.

I am lucky and am reminded every time a friend has to go in to get them pulled. It is a relief especially since some people have gotten sick from the pain meds. One of my coworkers a few years ago had to take off work for the surgery but she only requested the surgery day off! I told her before she asked for it off that she should should ask for more days off because it can be rough depending on the person/amount of teeth removed. She didn’t listen!

sometimes, the tooth gets stuck. The doctor will then have to use a hammer and a nail to force it out.

The semester will be long ended when I get the teeth out and my job doesn’t start until June so I have as much time as I need to recover.
