So I was accepted to Gettysburg College under Early Decision and will attend. I was wondering if anyone could adress a few questions about the school. Such as the reputation of the various fraternities, and which ones are the best. How strict is the DPS? And how to avoid trouble. Are the students friendly or stuck up? I could see this as being a problem as many people come from wealthy east coast families.

The Fraternities play a big role in the social scene at Gettysburg, you are correct. As a first year you are ineligible to join a frat but encouraged to check them out and consider which one you would like to rush in your sophmore year. To avoid getting in trouble with DPS don’t mess up in the dorms. PA’s drinking age is 21, so don’t get caught with a keg in your dorm room. If you go to a frat party you can drink without being hassled. Most bars in town will card you. Gettysburg students are fairly friendly and outgoing. You will have the opportunity to bond with many members of your first year class before the semester opens. You might also consider checking out some of the many clubs and organizations on campus. Because of its relatively small size you can usually find a role in any number of activities that you might have an interest in. Good luck!

@futureLACstudent…congrats on your acceptance! Gettysburg is a nice place. Did you accept?

Thanks for the advice, and yes I accepted, and sent in the $500 deposit.

Congrats! My son is a junior there. I have loved his experience there.

Congratualations on your acceptance to Gettysburg! My son is a current freshman and is very happy with his decision to attend Gettysburg. Gettysburg students do not rush until their second year ( in my opinion this is a very good thing!). You will have plenty of time and opportunities to figure out the personalities of the various fraternities. You may even find it is not for you and that is perfectly fine too as there are many other ways to be engaged with the school and social scene.

Congrats! I was also accepted to Gettysburg College under Early Decision. I am an international student from Vietnam. Hope we could get along well in Gettysburg ^^

By the way, could you guys please tell me if I have to take any foreign language tests before the semester began? And are those foreign languages difficult as they sound?

@Ivyable yes you have to take a foreign language test. Ill ask my son how hard he thought it was when he gets home. Hes on spring break now so hes home. Congrats on your acceptance. Gettysburg is a really nice school!!

IvyAble - congratulations on your acceptance to Gettysburg!

My son took a language placement exam over the summer. He did not seem to think it was too hard. Once he arrived on campus he decided he wanted to try a new language so the placement test, for him, did not matter in the end. Here is a link to the Gettysburg Foreign Language Requirement:
