I've fallen in love with two Pennsylvania schools. They are Susquehanna and Gettysburg.

I've been able to discern that my stats should get me into SU-----but I'm confused about my chances at Gettysburg.

GPA 3.45
SAT 610 Math 580 Verbal

Two sport athlete-----team captain of one. Tons of EC's

Opinions??

what sports do you play? Could you be an asset to those sports at either college choice? If so, you should contact the appropriate coach. The coach may have some sway in pulling you in, but from what I hear on CC here, don't get too confident that a coach can deliver everything they imply.

USNews 05 rank for Gettysburg has 25-75 percentile SAT as 1200-1340, so you could improve your chances by doing better on SATs. Whereas Susq is 1060-1230.

One comment on the SAT ranges. The SAT's tend to be lower during ED, and then during RD, they tend to be lower for legacies, under-represented minorities, athletics, and other special cases. If you are applying Regular Decision, then it takes more than just to be in the 50% range. To be a strong candidate, you need to be towards the top of the published range.

SAT scores normally go up between junior year and senior year. You can take then in the Fall when school starts again, and then again in January if necessary. Get some SAT preparation material, and read about the test and take practice tests over the summer.

If you REALLY love one school, then you might apply Early Decision. It can be easier to get in during ED than RD. If you apply ED, you will either be denied (it's over) or deferred (will be reconsidered if you reapply during RD). If you are deferred, it will help you in RD because you showed so much interest in the school and they like that.

If you are on a team in high school, it doesn't help that much unless you qualify to play on the college team. However, being a captain of a team helps a lot.

Daughter and I toured Gettysburg a couple of weeks ago and she loved it also. I was just reading that their ED rate is 93%!!!!!!!!!!!
