GI Bill and MERIT aid

I fI apply for the GI Bill Chapter 35, will my colleges reduce my grants? This doesn't include need based aid and loans. For example:
If I recieve a 20,000 scholarship from elizabethtown, which is solely merit-based, will they reduce the merit?
Also, will it effect grants? I think this is need-based aid. example:
From Hobart and William Smith Colleges, I recieved about 23500 in grant aid

Can anyone explain how it works at all? If it helps: my dad is disabled and managed to convince the VA (or whomever) that it was 100% from being in the Vietnam war. The diability is going to be eventually fatal

OH! And most of my colleges are private in Pennsylvania and New York around $50,000 a year with room and board (something I CANNOT afford- i can barely afford $5,000 a year- I applied because their generous with aid and merit)

will my colleges reduce my grants?

What you mean is…will colleges reduce your merit scholarship.

Thanks to your dad for serving our country.

It can depend largely on how the scholarship is worded.

I know that Alabama recently changed the wording on its merit scholarships so that those who are using GI bill benefits would not have anything reduced.

So, you’ll have to check with each school and see how the scholarship is worded. I’m not sure of the exact details but I think (not sure) if the scholarship is written in a way that it appears to go towards tuition or housing or some other named expense, then there is some kind of reduction. But, please check to be sure. I may not be remembering the details correctly.

Good luck.
