I was wondering how many people give a thank you card/gift to their teachers/counselor for their recs. My parents thought I should give my over-worked English teacher a thank you g.cert. and note and the GC too at the end of the year. Some kids think it's silly and some are doing it too. I wondered out in CC land, what the consensus was.

I don't think its required or necessarily necessary, but it would sure be appreciated. I plan on giving a gift from the college I'll be going to and writing a nice thank you note.

Common courtesy would require that you give at least a sincere, handwritten thank you card or letter. In addition, my daughter gave each of the rec writing teachers a coffee mug, from the college she eventually chose to attend, filled with Hershey's Kisses.

giving poinsettas to some and will figure out something else for others.

D gave handwritten thank you notes and small baskets of homemade jams and homegrown honey.
