Gift for Letter of Recommendation

I found all the above at Costco.

thecheckbook those are AWESOME suggestions! Just make sure to include the note ;)

Or you can make something yourself? Like a self-made thank-you card or even a painting - it’ll show that you cared enough to put time and thoughts into the gift, but the gift itself is not expensive so the teacher wouldn’t feel awkward accepting it.

As a teacher I can attest to the position that just a thank you note is pretty nice. I have written many letters of recommendation without receiving a written thank you note. I really appreciate it when a student spends a little extra time writing a note, which I prefer to an email.

Since I know that writing a letter of recommendation is technically not part of my job and is done after hours I made sure my daughter did something special for her teachers. She baked cookies for them. I wanted her to spend a little bit of her time doing something special for them since I know they spent a little bit of their time doing something special for her.

By the way, I do not resent any student who doesn’t write a thank-you note because I figure it is a gesture that a parent should have taught them. Last, even though I write these in my own time I do like helping my students and when I hear about their real-life successes after high school I am very proud of them. It is very rewarding to know you have had something to do with a child’s future success.

What a wonderful thread!
Great ideas!

My daughter is planning on getting her teachers ‘personalized’ thank-you notes and a small box of macaroons (a hot item in the city we live in).

When she’s home for winter break, she plans on bringing her teachers some simple momento items from her school (which isn’t decided yet!). She figures this would be nice as we live overseas and the majority of her teachers aren’t from the US.

Let’s not forget, thanks also to all the parents for standing by their student and surviving!
Double thanks to parents who are also teachers :-)
