A friend’s daughter is graduating college this weekend and starting grad school in the fall to become a speech therapist. She does not want traditional graduation presents, rather supplies for future clients. I was told kids books and possibly games for kids. I was hoping to get specific suggestions from the always knowing group here.
Our S loved brain teasers, which were his reward after working with the speech therapist when he was in 5th and 6th grades and having speech therapy. He wasn’t nearly as fond of the stickers and other incentives he received, plus the adhesive in the stickers would probably go bad over time.
I am a speech pathologist. I know she would like something related to her future career…but really…what will that really be? Speech paths work with folks of all ages from new born to geriatric.
And her grad program is two years long.
Her school clinic will likely have most of the materials she will need for now. She can get books at the library.
If it were me, I would get her a nice backpack she can carry her computer and/or iPad in…and fill it with consumable things she will be using…now…like pens, markers, maybe an adult coloring book for HER to do…with the colored pencils. Maybe put a couple of gift cards to food places near her school.
If she has an IPad…a gift card to the App Store would be good as there are TONS of IPad applications for speech pathologists…or…she can use it for something for herself.
I have hundreds of books I used in my work…and TBH, I can’t even think of a couple that I would suggest she MUST have over others. So much is dependent on the age of the client, and ability…and skills being developed. In addition, of school based, these things should tie in with school curriculum. She doesn’t know these things…yet!
Now…when she has her first job…that’s another story!!
Future speech pathologists need to eat and clothe themselves. A gift card to Amazon? She can get books for work, too.
