Gifts for teachers whoo wrote recs

Is it appropriate to give a gift to the teachers who wrote my letters of recommendation (maybe $25 gift card to barnes and noble or amazon)? I already wrote a note thanking them, but I want to show them I really appreciate that they took their time to write my rec. Is this a normal thing to do?

Yes, this is a normal thing to do. $25 might be a bit much unless you know the teachers really well, I’d go with something closer to $10 or $15. I personally didn’t do this, but I had gotten to know my counselor really well and she had been extremely helpful over the years, so I got her a Starbucks gift card.

The best is a handwritten thank you note on real stationery with a sentence about them personally, e,g, I always appreciated your … When I… As a educator, I have to tell you these are golden

At my school, a lot of people will buy ties (or whatever other school merch for women) from the school they’re going to?

Yes, a gift card is very much appreciated and appropriate.
(Speaking as a mother of a senior who has appreciated his references and as a high school teacher who has written them for others.)

Yes, you should. I got my teachers a chocolate bucket for $20; it takes a lot of time and effort to write a good rec, and the teachers will appreciate you thinking of them.

Gave all 50$ Starbucks gift card

that borders a bribe lol^. I hope you did it after the fact :).

When I got in ED I was too happy lol. After what fact?

After they wrote the rec and not before

Yup it was after :)

thanks everyone! i just wanted to make sure they wouldn’t think i was trying to bribe them or something haha (I have both of the teachers who wrote my recs this year).

Wanted to reiterate that gift cards are nice, but a sincere note of appreciation for the educational experience they provided is worth much more. And if you really are grateful, make a point of paying a visit to that teacher at some future time and saying it again. Knowing you’ve had a real impact on someone’s life is one of the biggest rewards of the teaching profession.

My son did both, he wrote a heartfelt thank-you note and got them nice presents with the name of his new college on them. For the woman physics teacher he got a very pretty glass mug with the school name sand blasted on it… tasteful. For the male humanities teacher who also coaches soccer he got a hoodie sweatshirt with the school name. The notes, of course, were the most important part, but he loved the fact that the presents were a symbol of what they’d helped him accomplish.

Wrote a card and 50 dollar starbucks card before winter break to thank them for finishing my college apps.
Plan on buying them something else and writing another thank you card because I’ve been accepted to my ED school
I didn’t bribe. I am so grateful for my teachers, because I know that without the recs, my grades and test scores wouldn’t have been sufficient enough to help me in the admissions process
I gave them the stuff AFTER all the rec letters were submitted :)

Thinking of a gift certificate to Fandango (movie tickets) for those who wrote son’s recommendations
Thoughts? We thought it would different than the usual Amazon, B&N gift card
Of course, he will write a thoughtful thank you

My teacher doesn’t like chocolate and i’d prefer to get him something rather than a gift card. He’s been an incredible help and has done more than just write the rec so I really want to get him something nice. He’s 29 or 30 and lives in Brooklyn…

any ideas?

I got a $100 card to Daves.

I baked cookies for them but I thought it would be awkward to give them a gift so big during xmas as I don’t think a lot of people give gifts to high school teachers during xmas as we have 7 classes. but at the end of the year i’m going to give gifts.
