Lately I've been to many birthday parties. I've been able to dodge a couple of parties, so I wouldn't spend too much. Like I made something for someone (really nice scarf; knitted), but my question is, how much is too cheap? I don't have a lot of money, so I'm concerned with staying in my budget and not looking cheap. When people give money, 10 dollars looks cheap, right? I mean it's better than nothing.

What kind of birthday party are you talking about? Boy or girl, family and a few friends or all friends, night or day, traditional birthday party or get-together?

10 bucks?! Maaaaaaannnn thats cheap.

I think its better to not give money. It looks cheaper.

Ok...so I should spend 10 dollars, but look around for things (plural) that look nice?

Girls or boys?

When I buy stuff for girls. I usually buy them a tube of Chanel lipgloss, which is like $15.

For boys I struggle a little bit. Like I'll get them a movie or a cd. Both under $20.

i second that, a movie or cd would be good. as for girls, i have no clue. maybe thats because im not a girl.

boys - chocolate and porn magazines or little stuffs for their cars
girls - make up/perfume (..doubt you can find one for 10)/scarves/gloves/hats/earrings/jewelery

scarves and gloves and hats and earrings and jewlery are really good choices for girls because there are some cheap ones can look awesome.. not like perfume/tshirts/makeup. You can really tell the difference etween a cheap makeup and a normal priced one.

Who are these parties for? If it is for your family, I think you could just ask that everyone stops exchanging gifts with you because it is too much of a financial burden. Family will understand. If you are talking about birthday parties for high school friends, I've seen a range of about $15 to $50. I've not seen college students exchanging birthday presents at all.

If you must buy gifts, it would be nice if you found a thoughtful and meaningful gift for the person, and then the amount you spent wouldn't matter at all.

For a girl....Bath and Body Works?
