My daughter is heading out to two accepted student weekends where she will be put up in the dorm rooms of students she doesn't know. Should she be bringing gifts for her hosts, and if so, what would make a good gift? Thanks.

haha I'm a student host. That would be awesome.

But no, that's not at all expected. Don't worry about it. A gift would be bringing a sleeping bag and a book in case the host has a paper or exam the next day (shouldn't happen, but it sometimes does).

Some homebaked cookies or brownies would be nice.

I have sent home-baked cookies and home-made caramel trail mix to the hosting students. No-one expects anything, but think about how wonderful it would be to receive it.

Springing for the late-night pizza is another option.

...Do your kids want to prospie with me?

probly some sort of sweets or baked goods. the best gift would be to be respectful and polite of course

My D took a box of chocolates from a local company last fall when she did an overnight. I also made sure she followed up with a thank you. Maybe a fall visit is a bit different than the admitted student visit, but just seems like basic good manners. Tea seems to be somewhat popular on some campuses, but I'd say candy is always safe.

My D stayed with girls from the sport team at a couple of schools she was checking out and she took a Tshirt from her school with the school name & sport on it, athletes seem to like another sport T from far away.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Today I bought t-shirts from our town (far away from destination colleges) and tomorrow we'll bake cookies. Cheers!
