**Decision: Rejected **

Date applied: January 1, 2010
Date decision postmarked/received: Received March 31, Postmarked April 1
Rejected to which school/major at NYU?: College of Arts and Science, History

Stats:

[ul]
[li]SAT Total: 1950 M:580 CR:650 WR:720[/li][li]ACT: Did not take[/li][li]SAT Subject Tests: US History: 760, Spanish w/no Listening: 740[/li][li]GPA-UW/W: School does not provide Unweighted GPA / 3.95 Weighted[/li][li]Rank: 24/180[/li][li]AP/IB classes: US History (5), English Literature, Biology[/li][/ul]

Subjective:

[ul][li]Essays: Main one was a rendering of my being Colombian-American through the juxtaposition of mondongo soup and frozen yogurt. In general I thought all my essays were HOT STUFF back when I wrote them but I GAG at them now. Though that’s probably me being cynical now that all is said and done.[/li][li]Teacher Recs: Solid, but nothing too special I would guess.[/li][li]Counselor Rec: She likes me and she might have mentioned a personal circumstance that I didn’t mention at all. [/li][li]EC highlights: National French Honor Society (Secretary), and heavily involved in promoting the French program in my school district. The few others suggested my lean towards art and creativity. Few stints in volunteer work. [/li][/ul]

Person:

[ul][li]State or Country: New Jersey! But born abroad. [/li][li]School Type: Smallish Public[/li][li]Ethnicity: Hispanic[/li][li]Gender: Male [/li][/ul]

Strengths? Hooks? URM? Fluent Spanish speaker heavily involved in French? Aforementioned personal circumstance?

Weaknesses? Math sophmore and junior hurt my GPA. Math SAT was crap. Little volunteer work. No involvement in my intended major outside of great grades and scores?

General Comments? I was bummed as could be when I got that small envelope. NYU is the only private out of state school that I applied to. The only one to bother with Subject Tests. I have kept and fondly looked at every single letter, pamphlet, and booklet that NYU has sent me over the last few years. In short, my absolute dream school. But I always knew an acceptance would be a stretch and money would have been a big issue.

Good luck to all!

@rmmut - did you mean received April 1st? :stuck_out_tongue:
And I think you should have made it.

Actually I meant Received March 31st, Postmarked March 30th hahah.
