Gilman Hall: Home for Humanities?

Hello, I am an accepted EDer that will probably major in the humanities.
I have a question about Gilman Hall--is it as cozy and seminar-like as the Hopkins youtube videos make it seem?
Any current or past students familiar with Gilman? I know it was just renovated.
Are classes held in there? Are the classes small and cozy like the clips in the vid (or are the small classes just for graduate students)?

This is an example of a Gilman Hall video:

Hey there, I’m a humanities major and I have had a few classes in Gilman. Not all of the humanities classes are there, but most are. A lot of classes will also have their “section” (a smaller group of about 20 students that meets with a TA once a week for a large lecture class) in Gilman.

I absolutely love the building. I did not see it before its renovation, but right now it’s awesome. There’s a small cafe and a bunch of different study areas, so it’s not just classrooms, people go there all the time to hang out or get some work done.

Most of the rooms in Gilman aren’t that big, so they can’t accommodate large numbers of students. Of the classes I’ve had in there, one had 8 students and the others had about 15-20. I think the video gives an accurate description!

nice! thanks
what’s your major?

I’m a writing seminars and history double major. Four of my five classes are in Gilman. It is truly a great building. There are a few big lecture halls but most of the rooms are pretty small like Hopkid said and are very good for seminar style classes.

There’s a big atrium with a glass ceiling in the center of the building. Students are always there studying and hanging out. And as mentioned there’s a new cafe inside as well. Gilman is also home to The Hut – one of the best places to study on campus.

Only downside is the building kinda smells weird since everything is new…but you’ll get used to it. Apart from the library, Gilman is the closest thing we have to a student union.

Enjoy.

Gilman is gorgeous! and I love how Hopkins has a close-knit humanities community.

Yeah, Gilman is great. Although I’m not a humanities major I always go there to study. The rooms are brand new and very clean. Moreover, they have windows, which cannot be said for almost all of the study spaces in the library.

I’m an engineering major. I’ve had one class in Gilman, with 50-60 students. The room was quite crowded.
