I am starting a thread where we can ask questions about the Gilman Scholarship.
I applied for Fall 2017, and I would like to know how the notification process works.
I know students are notified in late May/early June according to the Gilman website, but, is it usually in June? Or in May?

I applied for the Gilman also for Fall 2017. I think (taking a wild guess) they will be sending them sometime this week. We received emails on the 7th of June estimating the email notifications to start sending out four or five weeks after that. We are currently on week 5 so hopefully, that says something!
I feel much better knowing I’m not the only one waiting I received the same email back in June. Wonder what’s taking so long!
Yes I’ve been seriously getting so nerous about it for way too long, if I could just find out that would be fantastic because then I know whether or not to count on that funding and how that will affect my trip haha. I also wonder why it’s been taking so long, supposedly the program sponsor (I believe the State Department) is still not completely done in confirming the final list. I really hope it’ll be this week.
Yes, I feel the same way my deadline to pay my full amount was Friday, July 14 so I had to pull out a loan for my trip since I still don’t have an answer. But hopefully I do get some funding because it’s a lot of money to pay back once I return back from my trip! I just want to know already i feel so impatient with this long wait. I feel I check my email so much thinking there will be a decision by now. Fingers crossed though we will find out this week!!
Anyone else almost pass out from anxiety every time you hear your email chime on your phone?
I messaged them today on Twitter and now it’s looking more delayed to within the next few weeks. I’m currently waiting to hear back from both this scholarship and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and both are taking a long time so I’m constantly checking my email as well haha.
Omg me too I’m waiting on a response from both lol. I feel atleast getting an answer from one atleast will make me less anxious haha.
What’s the acceptance rate for this scholarship?
@alondra205 It’s usually 1 in every 3 applicants is usually the acceptance rate for it.
No updates on decisions do they usually take this long?

Congrats! would you mind either private messaging me or telling me more about this program? My foster son (college grad year 2019) won the Gates Scholarship, but studying abroad has long been on his wish list. I just have no idea where to even start - he has never even looked into an abroad program because it was “just a dream”.
I’m reading their website, but there is nothing like input firsthand from a winner!!
